New boat

It so boring Porto. Give it a rest. I’d take that over 3 itamas any day of the week.
I don’t go around dictating what others may say or not .
Or accuse others of “boring “ , or even stoop to personal criticism(s) .

You guys Mr Google has a fixation with Itama ,posted it 2x and now you once , and Andy 57 mentioned MAN .

What on Earth have they got to do with this thread or anything I have commented on ^ ? what’s a matter with you lot ?

Back on topic I have complimented the boats style , interior , fit out etc etc .
As they say a pic paints ( or vids I have posted ) a 1000 words .They are not my pics or vids…..what are you lot seeing ?

What do you see in a fugly boat with no guardrails and really poor accommodation for its size?
Beats me. But I know you love it and that’s fine.

But for most people, almost everyone, their priorities are different to yours.

I had a 28ft bayliner flybridge for a while. And that really was a slappy boat. Would I have swapped it for a boat with a higher deadrise and less accommodation? Not a chance. I loved it and had fun in it. And don’t say I didn’t go anywhere in it because I did many 200 mile non stop trips including the North Sea and crossed the English channel in it quite a few times.

The interior volume is more important than deadrise. End of.

It’s fine if you disagree for your boat. But banging on about it all the time and telling everyone else they are wrong is BORING.

Porto, this thread is about a member who has BOUGHT a boat not one asking should I buy XVZ or ABC. I was always told in these circumstances "If you cannot say something nice then say nothing". If you cannot remember that then I am sorry for you.
What’s not nice in your view that I have mentioned ? I can’t see anything that fits.
I haven’t mentioned my own boat or it’s machinery or even deadrise .
A lot of others have only for reasons known to them selves .I have called them out but not got an explanation why they keep bringing my boat into threads .

To quote Elassar post #62 “What do you see in a fugly boat with no guardrails and really poor accommodation for its size?”
Presume that kinda comment fits your “ if you can’t say anything nice….”

We don’t know for sure what the OPs priorities are he didn’t say before flouncing off .

So what if peoples priorities are different ? Thats entirely normal , not just with boats either .Whats your point ?

Why do you and Mr Google + a few others keep bringing my boat into everything?
What the hells it got to do with this?

At least you recognise the accommodation , in terms of “ interior volume “ is a payoff against seakeeping .You are smart enough to see what they have done with looking at the pic .
Delving deeper with smaller Hp even with duo props it needs a flater aft sections to get lift .Plus the bolt on permanent massive flap ( or is it brake ? ) The smaller D 6 s means bigger mid cabin , the voluminous bow , lack of sharp forefoot means as you say greater accommodation.
All boats are compromised…..somethings more than others .You can’t have it all .

Why everyones on this thread thus far so touchy on seakeeping beats me .Its a still a boat forum not floating apartment forum .Quite yet :) .Hulls part of the boat .
,
IPS Joy stick the different directions of the pods to manoeuvre mean to get sufficient vectoring without jerking into rolling it needs to be flat at the stern .A deeper V to aid chop sea seakeeping works against the vectoring to twist the stern manoeuvring .
A deeperV means more drag and more Hp .The Hp was the limiting factor back in 2015 .I understand they do a IPS 800 now with a bigger block ….I suspect those boats fitted with those will have a bit more aft V , but remember the vectoring point .

We haven’t ( well I haven’t) got into the CoG and CoL , riding bow high , inability to see out safely.Let’s leave it at that if folks are struggling with the pic and vid of the hull .But its got that permanent fixed flap in the down position to lift the stern / lower the bow .I always wonder ( Parabolica post #55 ); if they designed that in or added it later to drop the bow in hull #1? Reduce the AoA .

Indeed and agreed.

I’ve not known a new boat thread to be this “bunty“. (Use imagination there).

Anyhow, this has firmed up my previous thoughts that this has become a place of strong (interpret how you wish) opinion rather than good chat. I did try to dive back in and give it another shot.

I’m bowing out, not worth the hassle.

To those I know, I will KIT via other means but I am done. Chow.

Dont do that…….I certainly want to hear more of your exploits with the new toy. @Bouba and the other med based guys hardly post any photos anymore! Very inconsiderate ?

Maybe not Bouba……only so many empty bay photos one can take

Don’t leave.....in fact stay....there is a strong anti-IPS bias here....so we need someone to dispel the myths otherwise it’s just I heard from a mate of a mate....in fact no different to when I mention my electric car....the forum is slow to adapt to new technologies...in fact I’m amazed that so many of them have engines....??

Sheesh - how this forum has changed and not for the better unfortunately. It isn’t difficult to understand why some stalwarts no longer frequent the place.

@jcwads - cracking boat, you must be delighted! Thanks for sharing and I hope that you enjoy great times aboard. If you can it would be good if you did hang around here and share some of those experiences with us.

Hull looks very flat , and not a great deal of sharp fore foot either .Some IPs cross compensate the low deadrise by a sharper sections from station 5 the midline ( blue tripod prop in the pic ) to the bow .
From the pic it only sharpens from the tripod @ station 8 .

Go to 54 to see exactly how flat it is from the inside at the stern where the pods fit through .

Cant find any running reviews .But it’s in waves and chop that maters imho .

It looks like a possible slammer thus far .
Slammer , you must be joking .
I did quite a few miles on test some of it in the engine bay , whilst at work it felt like a proper day on the water , this boat sure does turn sharp , good job we closed the hull windows is all I can say as I’d bet they were not far off being submerged.
Fairline built slammers in the early days when they put too bigger engines in the phantom and sedan 32 which was really a river boat , since then they used the best naval architect for pleasure boats around .

Congratulations on a great boat ... I am sure you will enjoy it and be very happy!!!

As mentioned on another IPS v Shafts thread, I have lots of friends here in the SoF with IPS boats. They're all very happy with their choices and have no regrets. No complaints about high maintenance costs (at least no more than usual) or seakeeping ... or their boat's ability to handle the sometimes variable Med conditions. I'm not sure why people on these forums find it so difficult to embrace new technology, see that there are pros and the cons of both old and new, accept that everyone has different priorities and expectations, and there isn't always only one correct answer.

My thoughts too , I’m only on it recently to kill time and it’s not really making good reading to the point im talking to the OP via text message , it’s posts that end up like this start killing this forum.

I’m pleased to say that I have a new boat on the way. I’ve just sold my Targa 40, she will be missed as it’s such a lovely boat. It’s off for a new life in Holland.

My new boat is a 2015 Fairline Targa 48. All white. I’ve bought her in the UK, but will be shipping to the South of France early next year. I wanted a UK boat as will bring it back in a few years time., plus a solid history and you know what you’re getting 100%.

I’ll be doing a bit of work on her in the UK, including some upgrades and then it’s ready to go. Just now need to learn using an IPS..
Lovely boat, I’d have one in a heartbeat if I could afford it. Good for you. IPS is great, enjoy.

This IPS hating is getting very very tiresome ,.Most of the rubbish being spouted by people who have absolutely no experience of OWNING an IPS boat. I’ve had 2 IPS boats, a targa 44gt and now a v48 and never had one single problem with the drives. They are serviced every year without fail by Volvo which isn’t particularly expensive considering the total cost of owning a motorboat of this size. The targa 48 is a great boat .OP enjoy your new toy and ignore the haters ( always the same few)
