New boat

I think Bavaria are the ones that claim Volvo as fitment and if it is a Bavaria then the thread could take on a whole new life.;)

I'm not aware of Bavaria fitting Yanmars recently. They were Volvo users until recently, but I think they have swapped to Beta these days. Our Bav was built just on the transition and we got a free upgrade to a higher spec Volvo Penta because they were clearing out the last of the stock from stores.

Yes, for God's sake don't post any photos here or let on what boat it is, or all sort of hares will start running.

You will want to get back to the supplier with the problems and see if they can sort them amicably. It's the wrong time to get shirty with them, if they are trying their best. I would put the snags down in a letter "for their convenience" and gently float the idea that an independent surveyor might be able to suggest the best way forward.
Thank you all for your interest , I cannot say what the yacht is ( not a motor boat ) ,this not to prejudice any future situations,
Within limits
2019 yacht
45 ft
Brand new
It’s impossible to check belt , impeller , the engine is right up tight to bulk head , I bought the boat built so did not spec the engine , £250k yacht

Out of interest how is the guard secured?

Instead of normal bolts holding the stuff on the front of the engine there are double ended bolts-four perhaps- with an extended hexagon. They fix what a short bolt would fix, but then are able to space out and retain the guard using the projecting bit of extended hex and thread.

When fitted, this guard would require tool access to the nuts plus space to move it forward and upwards to remove it.

On my boat this would be impossible so it was discarded before the engine was installed.

Should a new boat not have an engine fitted in accordance with engine manufacturers spec , & that includes any covers they have . If I buy an new Car should I ask does the bonnet open to check oil etc .

I meet a bloke in the same situation with a Jeanneau DS 40 something, as he said at the time of buying, there's so much going on at the time of purchase even as accomplished engineer your a little overwhelmed with it all...

It’s not , I just cannot disclose incase I prejudice going forward

I don't mean to pry but I said Bavaria because they used to specify Volvos then changed and seem to have fitted several makes since. Also at 45' and £250K it has to be a production AWB and their aren't many to choose from and all the ones I see have a removable section behind the companionway steps giving access to the front of the engine. But if what you say is true and there is no reason to doubt you then the only answer is an access hatch to be cut in the offending bulkhead. One could argue that you have not been supplied with an item of merchantable quality and it is not fit for purpose.

Acknowledge your comments , you cannot get to front of engine , its shocking , if at sea belt goes , impeller there is no way to repair , cost was actually just under 300k.with spec ,

So, you handed over just shy of £300k for a new boat but you never bothered to look at engine access prior to purchase?
You wont share the manufactueres name on this forum but you want to talk to members here about it? Why? You either declare the manufacturer and others with the same boat can maybe assist you or you stop posting. Which one is it?
For those considering a similar boat from the same manufacturer the name of the manufacturer would be very useful so they are warned. Why the reluctance to expose. If you are correct you have a strong case against the manufacturer.
