New Boat Thread

Looks kind of OK to me........... Mind you I think someone has put the props on back to front ;) .

Remember they read from Right to Left in China could be the Reason :geek:

Very interested in your concerns about the durability - of the boat or the pods?
No concerns about the boat. I‘m an Engineer, and the pods concern my quest for simplicity on board. Shaft drives are as simple as you can get, albeit gearbox failures are not unknown. And of course shafts are vulnerable to fishing nets, pots and other detritus. With pods, and large engines, there are huge forces at bay in the pod transmission. I‘m sure with full service and attention they will give good service but the pods are more vulnerable to underwater debris and impact.
However your Pearl looks fantastic and I’m sure will give you great pleasure.

Thank you. I had concerns about the PODS as well as my parent's boat that they owned in the 1970s is still going strong on the original shafts (turned around).

There was a DELTA 88 in Lymington last year where the three IPS 1200 had done in excess of 2000 Hours in 5 years and not missed a beat, which I took as a positive.

I will have to see how I get on, have been very used to shafts and normal controls so very unsure about the joystick.

Congratulations. Pearl, whilst a very small brand have weathered many storms that have hit others much harder and genuinely make a lovely boat. Back in ‘06 i dealt with Iain Smallridge the MD there, with one of my companies providing them with a sales aid tool for Earls Court (or was it Excel by then), that year. He’s a decent straight shooting guy and passionate about the quality of their product. He showed me around the first 74’ they made in, was it, Korea or somewhere like that? That was rushed and ropey and i could see that he wasn’t proud of it and i knew that would be the last boat built like that.

Looks like yours is being fitted out in their Warwickshire facility though so his best team will be on it And i have no doubt it will show.

Great choice on the wood, trim and fit out details so far too.

edited to say, just read your comment about made in China. My bad. Things have changed but i’m sure the quality will still be there.

The Stratford facility was shut some years ago. It could only build up to 60 feet, and even this size was tough to ship to the coast. I believe the hulls are built in the Far East, and then brought to Portsmouth for fit out and completion. Ian has a small office in Warwick. He is a great guy, and knows all the boats they have built.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I saw a Pearl 62 ashore at Universal, I was at Universal again today and looking at the transom I noticed 2 large stainless plates bolted to the transom.
Wondering if you know what they are used for?
Maybe Porto has seen similar.

They are fixed trim tabs that are adjusted depending on the equipment and tender. The outer black units are Humphree Interceptors

I wonder if the Pearl is still out of the water, as I will drop down tomorrow to look over the hull etc - missing owning a boat a LOT

Yes it was still out of water 3pm today
There is a scaffold tower on one side so I would be surprised if it was relaunch tomorrow morning.

I think they have Volvo penta stamped on them. If they where those mental humphree jobs….probably wouldnt need extra fixed tabs! ??

On the spec it states Volvo Interceptors which I assume are made by Humphree
Separate things I’m afraid. I have Volvo interceptors on my boat - clearly smaller than those on yours. I would not have them again. I have replaced 4 in the past seven years. I am now at the stage that the next time one fails I will be removing them completely and fitting proper trim tabs. When they work they’re good but they fail too easily IMHO.

Congrats on the new boat, looks fantastic !
