Ok so have agreed a plan for a new (to me) boat, with agreement from swmbo but this wont happen until this time next year so have a little way to go yet but have been looking around as i cant help myself, plus i want to make sure i make the right choice, so i thought i would ask for your suggestions. Our budget will be no more than 70k and have the following wish list:

35-40 ft
fin keel
nice large open cockpit
at least 1 large double cabin
good sized head with shower(where you can pick up the soap without banging your head)
L shaped galley
swim platform
from 1995

I do like the look of the bennys' & jennys' but wondered if there are any others i should be looking at?
Will be using the boat mainly for coastal cruising on the east coast and northern france, a little club racing and for accomadation at weekends when not sailing. That said it would be nice to have a boat capable of a trip to the canaries just in case i get the oppertunity to fulfill my sailing ambition before i retire....

Finn gulf ?
No personal experience but I gather they are worth considering in the cruiser/racer/open water passage maker category

Two cabin Bavaria 37 1999-2002. Fireball on here has one. I have a 3 cabin but would prefer a 2 cabin for the heads and galley - plus two nice armchairs in the saloon.

Actually you have a huge choice but are unlikely to get out of the mass produced boats in that age, size and price range. Earlier boats like the Moody 376 are in, but later boats will be at the bottom end of size range.

Look at Dehler and Elan... more preformance.....

Late 90's Bene's, Jenneaus and Bavs tend to not be the quickest... But you can get a very good cruiser from them of around that age and price...

Figure...

late 90's Bavaria 38.... Jeunnaue 40DS should be just about reachable.... or a SO 40

10k more would get into something like a Starlight 35....

thanks, like the look of them both. 2 more for the list!

not too worried about a mass produced boat as long as it fits the bill, will have a look at the bavaria.
