We decided to change the covers at the end of last year and I got a pleasant surprise when we popped down to the boat this weekend to see that they had been fitted!

My experience of covers in the past has been missed deadlines and a load of aggro. This time our most local supplier never even got back despite being on the marina!

Ended up using Techsew who I've always associated with yacht spray covers but they actually have a big factory in Gosport including a stainless fabrication department. Very easy to deal with and at first glance happy with the results. Have yet to use them in anger but we have incorporated a number improvements over the originals. Everything zips out independently, folds into a built in valise and so on.

A few tweaks to the flybridge covers as well.

Used Sunbrella fabric and went for s chacoal grey with a bit of a texture in the fabric. The previous white covers made the boat look very bulky, the dark fabric helps show the lines of the boat more.

Looks really nice Henry. It is amazing what a difference a new set of covers makes to a boat.

We have used TecSew in the past, just can't praise them highly enough; service was first rate, very easy to deal with, great attention to detail and the covers were delivered and fitted a few days early.

We found we removed and refitted the canvass work almost daily as the design employed by TecSew was so easy to use and handle even when wet. Very impressive especially as ours was the first set of canvas they had produced for the particular yacht model.

Was a bit unsure of going away from the standard dark blue but very happy with the results.

Not a fantastic photo of the fabric but...

In case anyone else feels brave.

Hi Henry. I remember when I mentioned that I was getting new covers (back in Nov), you mentioned you were getting new ones too. Looks great and makes your boat look really fresh.

I removed my canopy last week (the company said to leave it on for at least a month to set)... was weird having velcro that did it's job... felt like I was breaking the canopy when taking it off.

Really transforms the boat and you quickly forget about the dent it made in your wallet, when you have a spanking new canopy :)

I totally agree. I hadn't realised they were fitted and so wasn't expecting them.

The problem we had was that the old covers were white and made of plastic. Visually the back of the boat was really heavy and the material tends to go pink, some sort of bacteria apparently, the P42 covers did the same.

They had also started to fall apart at the seams. We did some repairs and could have got them re-stitched but I wanted dark covers so in truth wasn't too sad. It was easier changing covers that needed a bit of work rather than perfect covers just for the sake of the colour.

Hi Henry

They look great, sorry to deviate but noticed your tender on the platform, how do you manage mooring port on as I presume the gate is on starboard.

I'm looking to buy a tender but not sure how to clamber over it when trying to moor!

Get an Azimut. They have transom gates port and starboard :D

Transom gate on the port side hence port side to.

I did buy a dinghy cover from Ribeye but found it kept coming off so gave it up as a bad job.

I wasn't aware of 'TecSew' but if the covers are ok then their dinghy covers should be too.

I have never seen a dinghy cover made by 'JB Covers' come off either. JB sorted my main canopies and I have to say they are great. But for the dinghy, I have a disposable cover, cheap and cheerful, about £30 in a light grey plastic which I buy new each year from eBay. It looks fine and keeps the dirt off the dinghy which is a white Cabrio 270 so worth it to keep it clean.

This is the dinghy with the folding transom that allows the engine to fold in flat within the overall plan area giving full platform access to both transom gates. It's nice to have two gates but of course I need to restrict the dinghy size to 270 to get good access to both.:(

Pleasing result Henry. I think it is almost without exception that when you get new covers you always have a few design tweaks that were never in the OEM version. Almost like the manufacturers don't give it a lot of thought or are only interested in cost saving / short term appearance and almost never as practical as they could be.

Fred Drift here...
Yes, works very well and 270 is good for2-3 people. Quick on the plane too with 8Hp 2 stroke. 10 Hp too but you're pushing it. (not for kids)

Apols Henry. :o
