Hi Everyone.....

Well we've done it - we have put down a deposit on a Prestige 36! - a bit of a step up from our 5.8m rib that we have at the moment!!

the boat we are purchasing is a "stock boat" - ie one that the dealer has had in the marina for a while and wants to shift it so that they can get new stock in for LBS and next year - hence I think we got quite a good deal. In reality it is a new boat with 10 hours on the engines

Is there anything that I should be looking out for - or insisting that the dealer includes in the price?
Electronics should be fitted in the next week or 2..... Can't wait!

Anyway - expect to hear more from me soon!!!

Cheers
Jools + Cath

A survey, yes a new boat you say but I would certainly have it surveyed you never know what you might find.

If the delaer scoffs at the idea then say that he must be so confident that nothing will turn up but if it does he pays for the adjustment and also the survey.

I am being very serious here. I am a Jeanneau owner and have enjoyed my boat very much but also have had my problems with it and some of these could have been sorted if surveyed from "new" but I bought a stock boat too.

Very nice boat, one in our marina near me, very understated and what I hear it is a capable boat with a v.good hull.

Bl**dy hell Jools thats quite a move! I thought the 29ft Marlin RIB would've been a jump but you've certainly gone one better than that. The delights on indoor boating eh? I'd love to see her but doubt I'll get the chance before I'm off to Canada so have fun!

agree, anything could have happened under the water in 10 hours. Don't rely on what he might promiss to do in the future
Good luck tho, nice move

Assume it's second hand, and has been badly mistreated. You will be buying it in the expectation that it is brand new and in perfect condition.

The challenge is to reconcile the two. It comes down to finding a way to take off the rose tinted 'new boat' specs when you take delivery. Arrange to visit the boat at least a fortnight before the official handover date, and spend a solid day aboard. Look everywhere, open everything, pull everything apart. List everything you find - loose screws, scratches on the galley worktop, missing lightbulbs, the one awkward door catch etc.

Run all the systems, and check everything works (heating, shorepower immersion heater, battery charger, mains sockets), including a full run through of the electronics. Check the bog, shower, shower sump and holding tank as well as any associated gauges. Make sure the owners manual represents the boat you are buying (options etc), and includes an accurate wiring diagram (it will be a bear to work on later if you don't have a wiring diagram).

Then give them the list and make sure that acceptance is subject to the defects being rectified, and that you have a suitable warranty period, cos you will not have found everything that needs fixing at this stage.

Enjoy the new boat...

Hi Alan
Yes - a bit bigger than the Marlin!! - We had a test run out in her, but decided she would be more at home in the Med - The cabin was fine for an occasional overnight, but not much more than that. When are you off to Canada? - I saw the "vessel" that crazy canadian had found for you!!!

Yes - I think a survey would be a wise move. DeeSol - I would be interested to hear what faults you found to see if they are a Jeanneux trademark! - PM me if you wish and I will take a special look in those areas!

Thanks for your suggestions

Cheers
Jools

One thing ive noticed in adverts is build date vesus commision date. Might be worth seeing if this is 2003 or 2004. Also, bear in mind its probaby going to be 2005 before you use it. how much would you pay for a one year old boat (or maybe even two year old?). 0 hours or 60 hours.. its still second hand, i guess. I mean, it loses value if its not zero hours maybe, but I wouldnt get too rosy the fact its ONLY ten hours. A 2005 boat bought at LBS will after all definitely be worth more than this one.. just how much?!

Make sure she has latest engine room fire extinguishers NOT halon, aslo maek sure electric windlass is working and check out length of chain.

We seriously considered a Prestige 36 when starting the school, only went for the F36 as she was already coded. They are good boats by all accounts

Agree that boats lose value floating in Marinas, not only when their engines are running. If the boat is a year old I'd expect a hefty discount on top of the reduction you would get on any new boat, though it sounds as if you have.

I must say I like the Prestiges, sharp looking boats, we see loads of them in France

10 hours is possibly not much more than PDI hours. Our new boat this year had 9 hours when new. There's an hour or 2 tank running at the factory, then by the time our dealer had taken her to IoW from Chichesterfor a test run, and swung the compassses, and done bits and bobs, that was 9 hours

Check the serial number. It will be this format

AVNGB 12345 J304

The first 5 are builder+country. AVNGB means an Avon boat made in the UK. The next 5 are builder serial number. The next 2 are hull mould date - J3 is October 03. The last 2 are the model year

Congratulations on new toy anyway
