Modern, beamy designs have a lot of hull volume, but as noted above it’s still a 30 foot boat.

In smaller boats like this the designers usually scale down the elements of the interior so it looks like you have everything, but it’s actually a slightly smaller version of everything.

Beneteau are past masters at this, and have been doing it since the 80s. A good recent (ish) example is the Finot Conq designed Oceanis 31. Nothing wrong with the approach, but obviously it’s important to get on board and see how you find the space.

I was going to post about that result at the time, but then I realised there were only 3 finishers in the class. An excellent result in a difficult race, but not yet perhaps proof that it’s competitive on handicap.

1st from 5 finishers Doublehanded.
9th from 47 finishers on ORC overall.
22 from 66 finishers on IRC overall.

Not bad sailing doublehanded, with only 1 week in the boat, and also pretty good considering that looking at the overall results it was clearly a big boat skewed race. On IRC I only see a couple of slower rated boats ahead of them.

There is one in Scotland but she hasn't gone particularly well so far in the races up here like Round Mull and West Highland Week, often finishing on the water behind J109s. The owners previously had a Corby 37 which they raced in the Commodore's Cup a few times so should know what they're doing, but it's their first season with her and I doubt the courses suit the design that well compared to the Fastnet and MSR.
