Nelson´s Arm Day

Sunday is "Nelson´s Arm Day" here in Tenerife, when the people of Santa Cruz celebrate shooting his arm off 207 years ago.
The cannon that did it , named "El Tigre", is on show in the town.

It was an unsuccessful raid into the harbour to seize a treasure ship, and thus deny Spain of important economic resources. ( Cynics suggest Nelson needed to seize the ship to pay his debts.)
