I'm with everyone else, i'd leave the floor alone. If I was going to change anything I'd change the upholstery from the std cream leather; right now I'm liking the dark grey cloth like Bartw's boat.

Ps lovely boat, congrats.

Hi mike. I think the 630 is a really nice boat, as you know from our discussions, so I hope you get it

I'm with you on the floor aesthetics and I'd change the look. Thoughts:

1.The floor is clearly retrofitted and not slipped under the cabinets. The scotia extrusion tells you that
2. You cannot sand and stain darker unless you remove the scotia and find a darker extrusion
3. If you're removing the scotia you might as well rip the floor planks out and replace them
4. Don't listen to SL that it is semi impossible to replace the floor. Of course they have an agenda in saying that. It's actually an easy job for skilled guys
5. So, make the deal that SL get you 30m of that extrusion in a dark colour. They must have a source
6. Then just get some www.element7.co.uk shipped to the boat and get 2 days skilled SL labour thrown into the deal to fit it

Job done.

Element7 is the business. I had it last 2 boats and it oozes quality. They will blend/ mix any stain colour for their oak. About £130 sq m so it's actually a pretty sensible price. You'll have to have the scotia extrusion I guess ( unless SL devote serious skill to cut the planks to 1 mm perfect) but I think the scotia will be ok and will be much better in dark colour than light

Don't even think about plastic and rubber floor etc, IMHO. I'm sure you're not. Won't look as nice as good wood and will kill resale

In the cabins etc just fit carpet. Too complex to do more, IMHO, and looks/ feels fine

And yes some scatter cushions plus mood lighting tweaks would funk it up nicely but each to their own on that :)

Mike, fantastic boat, good luck on completing the deal. The floor does look a little insipid, and if there is a sensible way to get some more colour into it then give it a go. Some dark scatter cushions would look good, and break up the lovely light leather.

I suppose Vas was rather referring to the odd shape of the upper part of the transom, overhanging above the swim platform.
V, if my understanding is correct, I don't think there's any reason for that design, other than making the cockpit more spacious, moving as much astern as possible the bench backrest, and at the same time leaving the swim platform as large as possible.
You don't see that often, because in many boats there's a lazarette or a crew cabin in that area.
But in the F630, there's no valuable space underneath, 'cause engines are on V-drives and the crew cabin is between the e/r and the master.

Re. your comment on bimini, you obviously missed, in the previous pic, the lowered arches in the aft area of the f/b... :)
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that there is one on the OP's new boat.

Lovely boat congratulations.

I tend to share the view that the flooring isn't that bad but then photos can be deceptive and if you don't it then something will have to change. Maybe slightly darker upholstery would improve the overall effect?

YES! Lovely boat. Add nothing; especially not throw cushions... let SWMBO do that on her own time. But I would try to discourage any additions. Minimal is great...

Mike,

A Fantastic looking boat, many congratulations!

I quite like the floors as they are, they give a nice airy feeling. But then I would say that, I have white floors at home :).

If you have an open check book on soft furnishings why not specify some beige Fendi rugs and grey/silver/platinum scatter cushions/throws? You can always get rid of the on eBay if you don't like them :).

Karndean - Polyflor amongst others supply good products to the trade.

If you require any assistance I can bring one of my guys out to Italy and I will personally supervise the project - Just make sure you got plenty of Peroni on board :encouragement:
Thanks, LionsDen, I didn't know this kind of stuff existed. It looks pretty good in the pics but is it really indistinguishable from real wood in practice?

Lovely looking boat but where are the rest of the pictures!!!!
Didn't want to bore people but here are a few more

This is the boat when we first looked at her back in Oct last year. The blue sky has been just as much a rarity in Italy over the winter as it has been here

PA311365.jpg

Galley

PA311356.jpg

Lower helm. A bit disappointing that only combined radar/plotter fitted but I'll live with it

PA311304.jpg

The boat is fitted with MAN 1200hp V12 diesels and as part of the engine package, MAN also provide a customised control panel for fuel/water tank readings and other parameters. Lets hope there's a choice in the menu to change the language

PA311311.jpg

One of the major reasons we wanted to change boat was to get midships master cabin

PA311317.jpg

Psychiatrists couch in master cabin. Bloody stupid if you ask me and I might replace it with cupboards later

PA311315.jpg

Forward guest cabin

PA311326.jpg

Third guest cabin

PA311321.jpg

Useable crew cabin making 8 berths in total on board

PA311336.jpg

We particular wanted a separate and useable dining area for our next boat

PA311293.jpg

Cockpit showing tight entrance to crew cabin and v useful serving area for passing food/drink between galley and cockpit

PA311291.jpg

Forward flybridge. I'm a bit concerned that helm position might be a bit blowy being so far back from screen but on the other hand I will be able to ogle the Russian totty I often have on board as they sprawl on sunpad

PA311332.jpg

Fly helm with typical Ferretti electrically operated up/down instrument panel. Typical sh***e Italian helm seat

PA311331.jpg

Other end of flybridge. It has useful area at aft end to store SWMBO's inflatable kayak which has always been a pain to store on previous boats. That's Carlo the San Lorenzo salesman. Only an Italian bloke can get away with wearing a pink scarf

PA311333.jpg

Aft steering position. It will be interesting to drive the boat from here at 30kts without a steering wheel

PA311358.jpg

Sorry no shots of oily bits. Have got pics but not v good

The sea trial took place last week but unfortunately I couldn't attend due to my SWMBO breaking her leg skiing so it was supervised by Jim Pritchard who reported no problems. The boat reached 35kts on trial which is fairly impressive for a 63ft gin palace but then, obviously, it was lightly loaded so I would expect a couple of knots less with us and our gear on board

Thanks to all for replies. Will get around to answering them later

Very nice Mike, although don't beat yourself up about your weight, I'm sure it won't really make 2 kts difference :D

I'm with most others that I rather like the flooring, why not live with it for a while and then change it if it still grates. The downstairs helm, or rather the instrument panel looks very tall, can you easily see over it when seated? And as for the outside steering cupboard, will you need to have a giraffe neck transplant?

Great pics Mike, she is a stunning boat, with some lovely features. The cabins look very hospitable, with so much room everywhere. Great performance too.

M, you said in your OP that the wooden floor hasn't been well fitted, but after looking at your last pics of the cabins, a few details would make me think the opposite.
The only thing I can see which I would have done differently is the choice of fitting the planks length with a regular, alternate pattern. Imho, a random placement is nicer.
But that's a very personal thing, and it's only noticeable in the saloon anyway.
Otoh, it's hard to see defects - if any - just looking at some pics.
What did Jim say of that job? He does know a thing or three about proper usage of wood....

Having had both Karndean and Amtico laid in past properties, I must say that I think that the latter is best, well laid it looks like wood, is quite thin but very hard wearing:

Mind you, I like the flooring as it is....!

I reckon her new name should be 'lovely jubbly'?

Oh dear, seems like I'm already getting in the mindset for my imminent trip to Ibiza...

Mapism, Jim was very uncomplimentary about the wood and we agree with him. Its been badly fitted and the white colour doesn't really suit the boat although we think we know why he thought of it because we see the same kind of 'beach house' style in shops and restaurants in Forte dei Marmi and other chic resorts along that stretch of coastline. Also the hatches in the wood for access to the bilges have been really badly cut so they are difficult to lift out. SL have agreed to trim the hatches and fit handles to them for easier lifting

Well ljs, at least my boat can still plane with me on it whereas yours is limited to displacement speed with you on it;)

I don't have to see where I'm going, its got an autopilot
