I too had one of these that gave up - I'm afraid I wasn't able to find anyone to repair it.
Instead I had the drive motor modified to accept a raymarine 6000 control head. It works a treat.

Steve

Who did the work and what were the costs ? I have no objection to changing the parts not connected to the steering its just the control unit which is attached to the steering gear under the binacle I want to save as its huge and obviously built to last forever

have you anymore info please
Thanks

There's one bloke I know of. He lives near Emsworth and used to be the manager or something of NECO. Anyway, he really knows his stuff & has parts etc to do the work.

2 problems. One, he's a bit of a funny bloke - he won't travel anywhere. You have to take the autopilot unit to his house. (He hates cars as well). Two - I haven't got his number with me. I'll have a look when I get home tonight.

Hi

First off.. Keep the drive unit. They are superb and it is hard to find a modern equivilent that does the job.

I kept my drive unit and it interfaced with a pair of Simrad AP22's. The guy that did the work for me is a chap by the name of David Holden of Swale Marine Electrical.

The chap who knows more about NECO gear is called Derek Coventry. I have a number for him that I probably should not post in a public forum. Email me via pcbsys AT hotmail.

Regards,

Paul

hi,

I agree the drive motor is very good.

I had it modified by Greenham Regis Marine of Lymington it cost about £200 to modify the motor and I then got a Raymarine T400 core pack and ST6001 Autopilot control unit. I've found that this set up works very well. It's fitted on a 10T 11m ketch and I've yet to find a condition where it doesn't keep a steady course.
