I have a piece of music that will not come off a CD as either a WAV or MP3 but will convert to WMA, is there a piece of downloadable software that will enable me to convert from WMA to mp3 or wav?

Yes there is. See this http://www.wma-mp3.com>link</font for some nice little programs. Most of them are trial versions of the full official ones, but you should be able to convert a cd to mp3 (or wave). If you have the right burning program (Roxio, which used to be called Easy CD Creator or Nero) you should be able to convert directly from any music cd to mp3/wav whatever.....

Rene.

I have nero 6 and also mp3 for dummies, a tool that I have found very good up until now, but this particular file has a sudden increase in sound level followed by an enormous clash of symbols right at the end of the (long) file, and must cause too many errors for the tool to handle, whereas the standard media player seems to be able to cope but will only produce wma files!

Can't speak too kindly of MusicMatch Player, from http://www.musicmatch.com the free player is very good, the paid for allows volume leveling (of all tracks) and lots of other goodies. I paid for 'lifetime upgrades' about four years ago, andd they've been as good as their word
