Any legal eagles out there? I purchased a wind3150 in Jan 2003 for £357.90.
It started dislaying faulty wind speed readings that summer and it was replaced under warranty in late 2003.
In the summer of 2005 it went wrong again and was repaired in that November for £167.43. I was informed that the warranty was for two years from date of original purchase, not the date of relacement.
In the summer of 2007 the same fault reoccurred and in February 2008 I was offered a replacement unit for £113.33 under a fresh warranty.
In the summer of 2009 the second replacement unit went faulty and in January 2010 I sent it for repair under warranty but no fault was found.
This April I reinstalled the unit and the fault reoccurred. On speaking to the service engineer I was informed the the fault was a known condensation problem. No replacement PCBs are available, and the wind 3150 and the Northstar replacemnt have been withdrawn from the market.
It seems to me that the Wind3150 was not fit for purpose. I only persevered with the unit because of the difficulties in replacing it with a different model which I shall now have to do, or patch up the hole in the cockpit.
I would have thought that I am entitled to a refund of £113.33 under the last warranty but I am wondering whether I have a good claim for any of the previous payments.

I convinced Plastimo that there was a 100% inherent design fault in their equipment, and so had 3 free Navman setrs of instrumentation - because they fail 100% due to design. Therefore the EU warranty with Zeroing dates is active.
However, it is now Northstar, who were giving away replacement kit at the beginning of 2009, which I took, free of charge, wind, depth and log.
My Northstar kit has been reliable - they changed the edge connector and reduced the condensation ingress.

They are still marketing the W315

and so I am surprised they would say that.
I found the Northstar warranty department very cheerful and helpful, although that was in the changeover period.

Service Engineer is right - Navman kit is junk and there are no spares. Talk to Northstar, they will probably cut you a deal.

I don't think you will get your money back though.

The service engineer said that the Northstar 315 is no longer available and that there is nothing on the market that will interface with the 3150 masthead unit. I will check this with Navico customer support.

Just got back from Hamburg supporting Fulham to find a Northstar Wind315 awaiting me as promised by the Navico customer support manager. He assures me that it will interface with my existing masthead unit so it seems that I will be back in business.
