hi there anyone know how i can test a navman gps receiver to see if it's receiving a signal i have the navman trackfish 6500 (from canada) i bought it only recently i have wired it correctly but no gps signal. i was told to turn off the EGNOS / WASS signal as it wasnt active in the uk.
i have tryed that nothing. also tryed a factory reset. nothing.
i'm also trying to connect my navman vhf7200 through navbus
but again because i aint getting a gps signal nothing is being sent to the primary unit it wont be going to the secondary vhf unit.

so anyone come across this problem before or can you help.?
any help really appreciated.
i mean it i have little enough hair as it is.!!!
help a nearing bald guy save his dignity///!!!??? ha!

There's an electronic copy of the 6500 manual here:
http://www.navmanmarine.net/upload/Marine/Internet_Manuals/6000/6500_MN000239A_eng_web.pdf
Section 7 shows how to display satellite information.
Press "Disp", select "Other", then select "Satellite".
This should show visible satellites, signal strength and antenna status.
Check antenna connection if there's nothing indicated on the display.
You may need to turn on the comms to get it to talk to the VHF (section 17-10) Press "Menu" until the "Setup" menu is displayed, then select "Comms"
Alternatively, if I remember correctly, it should still transmit data to the VHF in "Simulate" mode if you can't get a position fix.

Never had any problems with Navman gear (touch wood) normally just works !

Hope this helps ?
My apologies if I'm just stating the bleedin obvious !

thanks for the reply ive tried all you said before hand and i was getting absolutely nothing at the satelite screen so i have put it down to the aerial receiver the circular navman one hopefully if it's that when i get the new one the problem will disappear it's murder when you have paid a few quid for it and can even get a gps signal AGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I bought my Navman 5500 from the USA, and it developed a fault where the display would freeze. As it had a worldwide warranty, I contacted Plastimo/Navimo, then sent it to them and they had updated software downloaded to it. No problems since.

I know this is not your problem, but if you look at the paperwork/warranty, you may well find that it is covered by a worldwide warranty as well - so long as it is within the specified period.

If so, contact Navimo and ask them if you are covered under the warranty. You may well be.

Well worth a try.
