I don't expect free-to-access. I'm happy to pay/rent. I just don't expect them to (ahem) 'bespoil' their own product/service, that I'm paying for.
Exactly. It's not a free service, you needed an account to use it. So why stop it and force people to use their mobile devices for the same service, that already was implemented? Just slab a new name on it, if you like. Not a smart move from them, and very inconvenient for us.

I can see a time in the future when all the Nav App providers on phones and tablets put some code in that means your downloaded charts that you can now "keep forever" will not work if you don't pay a yearly fee. Currently you only pay a fee to most providers if you want the chart updates.

Complain to Garmin. The more noise we all make about this the better. If they don't feel the pain then Navionics as we knew it is likely to be gone entirely. I can't see why the Navionics phone app will remain when it competes with Active Captain

I recently deleted my Garmin account which meant my Navionics boating app on my iphone would no longer work.
I wanted to turn off autorenewal on my charts and could find no way of doing it in on their website.
There probably is a way but I challenge anyone to find it.
Instead I have now gone down the Lighthouse charts route.

Misses all the important features, but you can see marinas in the area. For that I prefer navily though.
It has the dividers and the chart which is mostly what I used anyway. If you look in settings it's clear they're moving towards what Navionics used to have

When I fired up the tablet yesterday, I noticed that there's an update available in Google Play Store for the Navionics Boating app.
As the 'new' icon is now 'Garmin' instead of Navionics I did not update as I didn't want to risk losing what I've already got downloaded.

Has anyone taken the leap and did you lose any info/settings/charts/routes... ?

Also installed the update and didn't notice any changes beyond the logo. However I've yet to navigate with it, so can't claim a thorough test.

Interesting though that with most other software updates, we have come to expect improvements. With Garmin and Navionics, we seem to have learned to expect them to make things worse.

Exactly - why couldn't they just leave well enough alone?

I should have realised this when the icon on my tablet changed to Garmin! I have a paid subscription on an 11" tablet which I carry on the boat for backup and race tracking.

Following reading the above discourse I was concerned that the routes and waypoints built over several years had disappeared. Most of these were created with the WebApp as it was, and is no more. I have been in the habit of downloading selected routes and waypoints to a .gpx file and using a micro SD card to transfer them to my Navionics chart on the Raymarine chart plotter at the helm. The ability to do this also informed my decision to take the Navionics subscription on my tablet. At the time (earlier this year) it appeared to me to be a better option than 'C' Map.

I've looked at the options referenced here for desktop planning at home and they are not suited to my purpose.

So! I've tested my subscription Garmin Boating App and find that all my routes and waypoints have been retained and accessible on my Android tablet. Good. I've also just now figured out how to download the .gpx file of a route. Also Good! So because I have an 11" tablet and have a subscription to the Garmin App my situation is not too problematic. I did however much prefer to work on a 32" monitor driven by a fast laptop.

I will download a .gpx file and transfer waypoints and a route to my cockpit chart plotter. The outcome of that exercise, later this week, I will report back to this forum string..

Actually.. Not so fast.. All my routes are on the Garmin App but my comprehensive list of waypoints from previous cruises has completely disappeared!! leaving 20 'Markers' with limited information.... Not so Good!!

If all this has been stated elsewhere in the forum, my apologies....

It's OK, I know the way!
Turn SW at Fremantle
Follow leads to avoid the reefs between Garden and Carnac Islands
Once clear, its South to Dawsville, just keep a weather eye out to the West for breakers on Coventry Reef
Enter the Dawsville Cut (It's got a breakwater with a light on)
Moor up to the collector jetty and get fish and chips (bring your own wine)

So, do I still need Navionics charts, well probably, it gets dark, wind is often on the nose and pesky cray pots often need to be circumvented!
