I believe the Navionics copy-protection works by including the card's built-in serial number as part of the encryption key for the chart data. Or something like that, anyway. So it's not practical to simply copy from one to the other.

If you bought the wrong chart online from the UK then you should be able to return it under the Distance Selling Regulations - though I would expect most retailers to offer a simple exchange without being forced by the law. You'll pay postage, but it can't be much for a pair of CF / SD cards.

I thought I had done the same thing, and then I discovered that the SD card had a micro SD chip that pulls out of the bottom! DOH!!!!

+ 1

It is also quite handy as it enables me to transfer software updates and the like from my computer onto a (different) micro SD card.

Right, I had the same momentary confusion with the card for my Lowrance plotter, but the OP doesn't have an SD card at all, he has a flash card (presumably Compact Flash as used for middle-aged Raymarine plotters). I even think I may know why he has it - I tried to order a Compact Flash navionics update card yesterday for my C80, from JG Tech, but despite clicking on "CF" it put an SD version in my basket due to an error in the web page. I emailed John G and he says he will fix it very soon.
