Just bought a Hudle2 so might as well have charts installed. My cruising area is mostly channel and atlantic coasts of France. It looks as though Navionics Europe is the only app which will give me this cruising area. I read elsewhere on the forum that there is little noticeable difference between the standard and HD versions. Have others found the same and does anyone know of another app which will give the same cruising area?

Unlike the original Hudl, the Hudl 2 is a full HD screen. It will be worth buying the Navionics HD version as the non-HD version will have jagged edges.

I have the Navionics HD Europe installed on my iPad. Last weekend we took the ferry from Santander to Portsmouth and monitored the passage most of the way on the iPad. Excellent coverage, particularly as our route took in the Raz du Sein and Route du Plomveur, very interesting on the charts.
 
The alternative would be Navionics Uk+Holland. That cuts off at Lorient but includes the North Sea to the Danish coast and obiously the British Isles. Rather strangely the Navionics charts for the plotter have slightly differing limits. In my plotter the Navionics UK+Holland chart cuts off at the southern end of the Chenal du Four.
Navionics Europe covers the whole of Biscay, the Channel and part of the Southern North Sea. I can't check right now where it cuts off in the North Sea, but I'm certain it includes the Belgian coast.
I have the non-HD on my Ipad and it is perfectly alright. I haven't had the opportunity to see it next to a HD version to compare the performance.

I did exactly the same a couple of months ago.

SWMBO thought I was sad monitoring the speed of the ferry and measuring the distance to go to deduce an ETA. What I didn't expect was an hour sitting the in car after docking before we actually drove off.

Thanks. That's very helpful. Does Navionics Europe cover S.Coast of UK? I was under the impression it only gives detailed coverage of French side of the Channel.

That may very well be the case. I can't check it now as I only have UK+Holland on the ipad and Europe on the plotter.
 
UK not included

On iPad , presume same for Hudl

Navionics Europe does not cover the S Coast of UK - you need the UK and Holland and for the extra cost the HD version is recommended for tablets. There are differences between Ipad and Android versions though with the Ipad appearing to have more functions.
 
Doesn't the navionics western and central Europe chart set cover the south UK, Channel Islands, the Channel coasts and then down the Atlantic coast and into the med?

That's what I was planning to buy...

Can't find "Western and Central Europe" you need to buy "UK Holland" and "Europe" as separate charts.
ie if we are talking about IPads Hudls etc.

This screenshot shows the western and central Europe chart set available via in app purchase on Navionics HD. At least, ... it is on my hudl 2... !!! :)

Have got Hudl 2 and iPad. Hudl is on the boat. So is that avail via Europe boating on android ?
OK just downloaded the boating app to ipad. I see where you got your chart. Craftily hidden. So no need to buy separate charts.

Open the app, click menu, click charts and upgrades then scroll along. It's the 14th set on offer.

I bleddy knew I wasn't seeing things!!! :)
