Am considering using Navionics:

However found these items:

Navionics offers a free Boating app download for Apple and Android. The free app download includes basic features and a limited free trial of charts and advanced features. After your free trial period, you will have access to base mapping only.

As of 2018 - Why is Navionics app being discontinued? We are discontinuing some of our Boating apps. Until now, we offered a variety of boating apps on the App Store™ and Google Play™, based on location and device type. Now, we are simplifying our product line and discontinuing most of them, leaving just one.

Is there a better app than Navionics? C-MAP is the primary other choice besides Navionics for the underlying charting information that many apps use with their own user interface. The new C-MAP Embark was designed to be intuitive so after a few minutes, you won't really be looking for the manual to manage the basics like waypoints, routes and nav aids. 14 Feb 2022.

Is using Navionics still viable ?

What do you use or suggest?

Yes, of course it is.

Five years ago, they simplified their range of apps. Now there's one app. (well, one on Apple and one on Android).

Just download it, cough up for the charts you want (Mexico, Caribbean to Brazil is £25.99 from where I sit) and away you go. Your charts will update themselves for a year - pay again if you want them to update after that.

I’ll second that for the Navionics app. It has its foibles but generally is pretty darn good. You do, of course, need a hardware device with proper in-built GPS. I.e not a sim-less iPad.

??????

I downloaded Boating Marine and Lakes from Play Store, about 5 - 6 months ago ... which is the Navionics app ... its still there ... free ...

You get so many days free download of Navionics areas to trial and then you can pay the subscription to keep ... you get all the updates for a year ... if you don't renew sub - you stay with the last updated version ...

I was never a Navionics user before - I wouldn't pay the money !! But this app and sub is excellent. Yes I am a convert to it.
