I was wondering what a good introductuary book is on Navigation.

Is the RYA publication the obvious choice or is there something better?

Thank you & regards,

I found Tim Bartlet's RYA Book of Navigation an excellent source book, comprehensive and clear. Various books by Tom Cunliff (The complete Yachtmaster), John Mellor (Book of Pilotage?) and Peter Cumberlidge will give more angles on the same subject matter.

I really like "Coastal Navigation" by Gerry Smith (pub. Adlard Coles). It is a really good INTRODUCTORY book, which is what you requested. It really assumes no prior knowledge and lays the fundamentals on with a trowel.

There are plenty of more comprehensive books around.
