Navico VHF radio

I have a Navico VHF with a telephone style mike and earphone instead of the usual fistmike. However, when you pick up the handset the sound of the VHF goes from the radio speaker to the handset earphone which is too quiet. Does anyone know stop the sound going to the handset and remaining via the radio main speaker ??? (It looks like some sort of magnet system on the instrument panel that holds the mike in place when not in use).

I believe the only way is to replace the handset with a fistmike.

Try putting a magnet where the handset fits & make a bracket for the handset?

I used to have the same set. The handbook gave details how to do this. Check your handbook, if my memory is correct there was a plastic plate somewhere (possibly on the telephone handset) which had to be reversed.

Thats correct. Ring Navico for details. They also do a very good value refurbishment.
