nav kit how good

Well it's quite possible that someone had drilled through the case in a dodgy installation - it was a simple question that's all

No there isn't' The case is sealed apart from the cable grommet.
True, but I can remember at least a couple of boats where whoever installed the same radome drilled a hole inside the lower case, to route the cable directly inside the arch - I suppose to avoid leaving any part of the cable exposed to the elements.
An idea which has some merits, I would add - not so dodgy, if done properly.

Regardless, if as I understand the whole debate started to help the OP understand whether what he has is a GPS mushroom or a radome, isn't it easier to tell that the diameter of the latter is 18" or more, while the first is generally 3" or so?
It's not like it takes a caliper to be sure of what's what...

For the original poster here is a link to the manuals which are very easy to download to a table.

My 2008 Bavaria has all legacy Raymarine kit that sounds like a mirror set up to the boat you are looking at and it works just fine for me.

The tridata has been explained.

The autopilot works either as a heading hold or you can get it to follow a route on your C80 chart plotter.

The radar will be displayed on your chart plotter (if its fitted) and it can be viewed on its own, overlaid on a chart display or on half the chart plotter screen in a split screen configuration.

You can add new Raymarine equipment to legacy with adapters, so a new touch screen chart plotter could be added for example.

As others have pointed out it’s fine, just not the latest.

I you have a legacy radar - Pathfinder / RD218 etc then you can't upgrade to a newer touchscreen plotter without going digital - these are all analogue radomes.

Do these adapters grant a full integration? I mean, can a touch screen MFD show the radar signal coming from an old scanner, for instance?

PS: ops, I missed DV post before writing mine...

Check with Raymarine, but on my old sailboat I had legacy Raymarine and removed the 435 plotter and replaced it with an e7. I brought the seatalk signal in via a seatalh ng adapter - http://www.raymarine.co.uk/view/?id=1597

I could now see all my seatalk 1 instrument on the e7 and control the autopilt via the e7 as well as via the app on my ipad.

My sailboat didn't have radar so I won't comment directly on that, but you could ask the Raymarine help forum and here is the link to their answer on the subject - http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=421 It looks like no, but Raymarine suggest selling it as it still has reasonable value and then investing in a new radar.

It does seem that DV is only here for an argument.
Well J, I can see why you might criticize the tone - which is what "fait la musique", someone say...
But in terms of content, everything DV said was straight to the point.

If there's a statement I would argue with, it's only his first one, in post #9.
A friend of mine, before doing something completely different later in life, spent his youth onboard an offshore fishing vessel.
I'm talking of almost half a century ago, since he's now in his early 70s.
He doesn't have a clue about how to use a gps or a radar, but I would rather be out there in hairy weather with him at the helm, than with some other folks I came across, who signed 6 digits checks for their onboard electronics...

No tone implied - it's as you say - factual and to the point otherwise you end up with TLDR.

I agree with you about your friend but don't think he's comparable to the OP. If you're buying a modern 40ft boat you really should know the difference IMO.

Have you got one of this on your roof

Then you have radar!

yes the boat does have one of those ,I know what a gps mushroom is ,it is just the boat has a dome but the broker does not say it has a radar .thanks for the answers exept disco as if you can not give good feed back please don't bother has you spoilt my thread
