Mysterious boat pricing

I went to the LBS and was surprised at how "low"some of the new boat prices are compared to second hand examples of the same boats that I have seen advertised. For instance a new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 32 was quoted at £45,500.00 at the show, but I've seen a number of 2 and 3 year old ones for sale through brokers at £60,000.00. I've never bought a new boat, so:

Was I being given a price minus VAT at the LBS and this wasn't explained to me (even VAT this doesn't reach £60,000.00)?

Or are the 2nd hand boats fully kitted out - adding an extra £15000.00 (this would surprise me)

Or is this a sort of weird boat sales game whereby the advertised 2nd hand price has no relation to what the broker expects to sell the boat for (which seems common with boat buying)?

Or are people paying a premium for nearly new boats so that they don't have to wait for delivery?

Or are there other hidden fees that I don't know about?

Lot of questions I know. but I would be interested to find out.

I too was surprised at a few.
There's no doubt that some of the headline prices were ex vat, ex delivery, ex dealer prep etc but there also seemed to be a lot of good basic packages at low prices.

When I suggested on MoBoChat that there were some areas of the motor boat market where this applied there were some of the usual jokes but I am sure that much of the pricing is both relative and what the market will bear. With the introduction of a number of flybridge/minicruisers in the 8 - 10m area the price of the 7 - 9m single diesel engined craft does seem to have fallen.

I got the Jeanneau pricelist from the LBS, and the SO32 is over £60,500, so I'd be interested where you saw £45,000.

Depreciation on second hand mass produced boats 2 years old, according to a well known Hamble broker ranges from 10% to 25% depending on make, from price of new standard boat irrespective of any extra bits added by the owner. I too noted that some manufacturer's/distributer's brokerage prices at the show tended to be alot higher than the new. Assumed that brokerage prices were inflated to encourage sale of new boats (The good investment argument is a strong pursuading factor for the mug with buyboatytis). After all, mark-up on new boats is much more than brokerage fees.
