Waiting for a ship to arrive with a boat which has to be off loaded and then prepared for delivery is always a hit and miss event. However the ship finally docked at 05.30 on Friday morning and there was the cargo.

After nearly 8 weeks at sea from Taiwan she looked in pretty good condition.

Up close this Outer Reef 70 is BIG.

The bow thruster is not for the faint hearted! It is 38HP hydraulic system as is the stern thruster which was very much needed to get 65 tons away from the side of the ship.

But it does have a good pair to push her forward!

It was vital that the boat be lifted off the ship, but it was getting windier by the minute and there were no shore cranes, just the ships own and there was no way it could be lifted onto the quay as the cranes could not have reached! So it was a tense time as she was lifted.

Once safely in the water alongside the ship, we ran the engines up and had to make sure we could clear the cradle and not take out the stabilisers. We also discovered that the SeaTorque system on the starboard engine had an oil level problem, so or decision not to start the delivery to Southampton this weekend due at first to weather was now reinforced.

The boat was then taken over the Firth to Port Edgar.

She will stay here until at least the end of next week.

The engine room is amazing and in addition to all the main kit, she has twin gennies and compressors.

The Racor filters are larger than most!

The interior is stunning and I can't wait to get back up to bring her back to the Hamble.

I'm often asked what boat I would have - I think I've found it. But at $3.5m it is a bit out of my price range!

Wow Dave that is stunning!! Please post some pics of the interior if poss. Really a stunner!
P.S. hope you recovered well :)

What a supurb looking ship, I spent some time in Port Edgar three years ago and loved the place, it surprisingly different from most marinas I have been to, I am flying to Edinburgh tuesday eve, think I should have a word with mr flybe and see if he will detour over so I can get a look :)

I will have around 50 hours on her to take interior shots when we bring her down to the Hamble. She will be moored at Universal Marina before heading off to Genoa and her new owner.

All improving thanks Lisa - but I have to say that handling the ORY 70 is a dam site easier than any small sports boat. She is a delight!

You can say that again! looks like something out of a 2nd World War movie - all tin shacks and sheds, but the staff are great. There is a slight issue with the power supply as the 16amp power supply does not even run the battery charger. The staff have moved heaven and earth to get the supply upped.

Well if you are going over the Forth Bridge from Edinburgh you can't miss seeing her from the bridge.

Thanks Solitaire. Lovely machine indeed!

Was she lifted by lifting the cradle, then floated off? Do you know why? I've been on ship trnasport decks severla time and never seen that. Just curious.

Is this Mr P's boat Nautical/MapsM, our italian friend who came out on my last Sq58 for dinner between the Lerins Islands? I hope it is and that he has finally got himself a very fine ship. It has Europe 230v sockets so i guess its home will be in the Med

I too am very surprised at the delivery routing. Taiwan, Edinburgh, then to Genoa by sea? Right now the boat is nearly 2800nm from Genoa. I would have paid the shipowners to divert to a better route (I mean a route that put fewer hours/miles on my boat) rahter than take possession of a "new" boat with such high hours/miles. I know the boat is more than capable, but that isn't the point. It's the principle that when buying a new boat I want it with sea trial miles/hours only.

Looking forward to more pics. Solitaire I'd be interested to hear about fuel burn mpg on the long trip you're about to do. Would be nice to compare it with a 60t stabilised planing boat if poss. Would be great if you could log the fuel and miles for us. Are those Cats C15 acerts? Bon voyage anyhow!

Port Edgar -- "all tin shacks and sheds"

Shame. I did some time there in the '60's when it was HMS Lochinvar.

Learned to sail in clinker built boats there just at the time the Forth Road Bridge was being built. The guys on the bridge used to "bomb" us with red hot rivets. Good game, good game.

Graduated onto MFV s that were part of HM Navy at the time. Ran a renegade ferry service for the ratings at the Rosyth Dockyard opposite. Well, HM was paying for the fuel.

Went back there a couple of years ago. Shame.

they were of Ramsgate last night, so doing well, nice ride but slow is what I was told.

Well sort of back! Boat is now in Dover just waiting for a weather window to get her back.

But here is a short video of the trip. We left Port Edgar at 13.05 on Friday and arrived in Ramsgate at 10.30 on Sunday morning - non stop!
