..hi my S.S.R registration is due up next year can you tell me what the benefits of having this on a domestic sailing boat .or can I have a boat in the uk that's not registered thanks David

If you never leave UK waters then there's no particular benefit. The purpose of the SSR certificate is to "prove" to foreign officials that your boat is British.

There is nothing saying that boats in the UK have to be registered, any more than freezers, computers, or any other possession - and plenty are not.

Pete

If I don't and its in Spain I may get hit for tax out there
The "tax" is nothing to do with the registration of your boat. Whether your boat will be subject to any tax in Spain is solely dependent on YOUR status. If you intend becoming resident in Spain, that is living there for more than 180 days a year then you may be liable for taxes on your assets that you bring with you. If this involves your boat, it will still need to be registered as the registration denotes the nationality of the boat.

Well worth reading the guidance on taking your boat abroad on the RYA site so that you know about the documents you are expected to have with you.

At the moment you may also leave Welsh waters for Scotland without an SSR; who knows the challenges passing through Manx waters...
...where registration for leisure craft is compulsory
And wait 'til next year when you will have to apply for pratique to enter Scottish harbours after having passed Quarantine inspection and a strip search by the wee tartan trousered Revenue man. Remember you will be passing from an EU country to a non-EU country so you will also need your passport and possibly a Visa issued by the new Scottish Embassy / Consular Office in London

With "Call me Dave" running shit-scared of UKIP it is more likely that you will be passing from a non-EU country to an EU yin in a year or so. However, if Scotland is not immediately welcomed into the EU club with open arms (and subsidies) I am sure we can return to the sanity of red at proper red prices.

I don't see that happening for some reason - more likely total ban on red and a wealth tax on boat owners no to mention a window tax, higher property taxes, car taxes etc as the poison dwarf will need all the money he can get to pay for the gravy train and all the feckin immigrants he plans to let in - will the last of the indigenous population to leave the republic of Scotland please turn off the lights.
