my project sealine

Time for an update, not much that is photogenic though.

The boat has been snowed on. Poor thing was in St Carles so very recently. So the boat is covered in salt and muck as you will see in later pics.

Dash, the final GRP is done and installation will start now.

The new fly windscreen has arrived and that should go on tomorrow.

I have been removing miles and miles of owner added wiring and diligently labelling all that remains or that I replace. Hours of hidden work that will pay back in time.

Deck. I have decided on Flexiteek from Advanced marine decking in Deacons.

Rob was unhappy with my templating so came and did it again - for free, he wanted to get the job right.

Chatting to him, I said that as a reasonably knowledgeable boater in the trade, I still find it hard to differentiate between the deck systems.
So he explained:

His has welded seams, not glued tongue and groove which can fail over time.

His has a castled back to increase surface area and thus improve adhesion, but not the inverted V which can leave air bubbles.

But the killer feature for me, which I hadn't appreciated, is the swirling colour through the product. It gives the impression of natural colour variance, that remains even if you sand scratches out.

SO realistic. Really. Can't wait for it to arrive. I have chosen "bleached" which isn't the darkest it's the next one down.

A monotone competitor is shown for comparison.

Engines.

Col and Vicky have refitted the injectors. All had some form of non standard gimmick so all have been re tipped and pressure tested. Compression test on the engines showed 310 or 320 on all, spec 319 when new. That is as good as new as far as I'm concerned.

Finally, the windows will be ready for collection tomorrow.

All looking very good

I wasn't aware of that killer feature ellesar. I agree, it is a serious differentiator. Ref your last pic, are you saying you have chosen bottom left, out of the 4? Good choice, imho. Top left is yuk. Top right looks like it was cleaned by someone who is no good at cleaning. Bottom right is too dark. Bottom left is "the one". Imho

Are you still having white caulk? I hope to get some pics of white caulk at Fairline factory day after tomorrow. Will post

I see you have a sample with white caulking! JFM will be pleased.....

Looks blooming cold down South, I'm off to Spain with SWMBO for a few weeeks from 18th Dec. I will let Coral Rae know how badly you're treating her little sister.....

Yep, bottom left. And yes high luminance caulking, though not quite as bright white as yours. Works with my deck.

I was determined to have black and it's your fault I'm not.

BTW Rob the teak man has a boat in St Carles.....

(he's a WAFI but seems relatively normal so don't hold it against him)

+1 wot JFM says....

Top left - never cleaned
Top right - badly cleaned
Bottom left - well cleaned (right choice)
Bottom right - new!

Yep, sort of how I saw it and the reason for my choice.
What's fascinating about your and J's comments though is you can add the word "teak" to your descriptions. Shows how the lino has come on.

Only just viewed this thread.

Wow!! Fantastic stuff, you truely have given a tired boat a new life. She will look stunning by the time you've finished. Can't wait to see her out and about.

I think that the fact that it looks like teak is a given. It's also interesting that there doesn't seem to be the same snobbyness that there once was.

What does it smell of, if they can get fresh teak smell that would be great!?!

The windows are back and are being fitted - should be finished tomorrow.

Here's a pic showing a new window and the new fly screen. The old one was brown - yuk.

Just need to replace the rubbing strake insert with the new black one and give her a final polish before launch which is now booked for next week :)

Finally the finished, horizontal bowthruster install.

I'm amazed at the rate of progress with the refurb - most "projects" like this end up standing around in yards for years gradually mouldering away whilst the owner optimistically tinkers away.

Not this one!

Fab stuff mark. Very impressed with the thoroughness of your refit, and no-mucking-about speed of it. It'll be fab when done. I see the mustard yellow carpet is still going strong :-)

Thanks for the comments :)

Progress will slow post the launch on Saturday.

Thereafter:

Finish nav install and wiring
Detail engine bay, grey direct adhesion paint for engine bearers, green for those big in the way things, tidy and replace damaged soundproofing, thorough clean.
Detail lockers and bilge areas - all that have been worked in have been newly flow coated, this will run throughout the boat.

Once all the "behind the scenes" stuff is finished:
Oak and lacquer all wood
Replace worktop (tables and sideboard plus all cabin furniture are all good, just the galley)

Then once funds allow:
Finish "teak". Just doing bathing platform and fly steps for now.
Re upholster. Quote of £2150+vat seems a bargain.

then - and only then - a new carpet :)

Today's milestone though, I finally got round to changing my avatar!! Solitaire has promised me a running shot once I'm on the water.
