My Liveaboard plans, (long term plan)

Hi Guys
Plan looks pretty good though I'd say go sooner than later.
The main reason for my reply is regarding the flat. Here in Devon it is possible to rent your property to the council, they look after everything so no worries only drawback is you have to give 2 months notice to get your property back. Maybe worth looking into?

Great detailed plan, but way too far in the future. GO NOW. We took the kids and are having the time of our lives. See my blog link below. (French Canals were fun).

Men plan and God laughs

I wonder who said that?

Anyway, it's very apt regarding plans so incredibly far ahead.

A good mate from this forum planned on doing transat with me "this year or maybe next" and it turned out to be never - cos he delayed it the first time and very very sadly died within a year.

Can you mod the plan to go earlier - or do something now? A smaller boat and staying ashore? Offer yourselves as "boatsitters" on a boat in med?

If there's a will there's a way - but i question your desire to actually go when the plan is so very safely far of in the distance. It's just a nice idea, really, as are all such distant plans, surely?

11 years is a long time but it will pass.I was in your position and I took the same approach as you.I joined the Cruising Association and went to their Med Section seminar on getting to and cruising the Med.I bought PBO and YM and cut out and filed any relevant articles. If I met someone who had been through the canals or cruised the Med I pumped them for all the info I could get.I posted on here (as 'Keltman') and asked what must have seemed - to the cogniscenti - all sorts of naive questions. Then came the day SWMBO and I put our plans into reality and we found ourselves in Honfleur taking the mast off before setting off for the Med.

I learnt that a lot of my research was useless because the information was incorrect.I found out that I need not have worried as I did because it is an easy trip to make and there are plenty of people only too willing to help and advise you along the way.

That is not to say that I would advise you not to plan and scheme and research - if nothing else it will help those 11 years to pass!

Best of Luck

Thanks for all the replies. Yes 11 years is a long way off and if I get the oppertunity I will grab it and go as soon as possible.
There may be an oppertunity to go in 4 or 5 years, once childs finished education, (SWMBOB would trow a fit if I suggested going while childs still in education)
We will certinaly be looking at all the options then.

Best regards to everyone
