PBO Tip No 282.

Over 200 rounds fired in the first confrontation, one baddy seriously injured & one policeman killed - other suspect escaped. I thought Bonnie & Clyde was a Hollywood exaggeration, but it seems that the trigger happy idiot law enforcer is still a danger to all & sundry in America.

Can't entirely agree with you on this one, Steve. The due legal process needs to be followed but IMHO the world is just a little safer thanks to those law enforcers.

Surely this is an insurance claim?
.

Unfortunatly probabaly not. Insurance usualy does not cover acts of war or terror.

Even with all the bullets fired 1 young police officer lost his life and another was seriously wounded. No innocent by standers were hurt.
Good job they got them

I thnk you are missing my point. Compare & contrast with a UK armed stand-off. Seldom more than a few shots fired & then by a trained marksman - err unless it is in a tube train or a Mini in London Traffic I suppose. :(

I just don't like the concept of a hail of bullets from an adrenalised group of average patrolmen. No chance of checking they have the right people & a strong chance of collateral injuries & damage. It's the American way I suppose, & the widespread availability for weapons for all won't help. But hey, most on here seem to be happy to hang immigrants & benefit scroungers so maybe I'm wasting my fingers.

Re the Mini in London incident - he wasn't even a terrorist, just a bit irritating - Private Eye ran a front page with a couple of UK police trying to pose as SAS, as they do even on foot patrol now - " why did you shoot him 27 times ? " ---- " I ran out of bullets ! "

I thought that was the SAS in Gibralter. But both the tube train & the Mini were mistaken identity/ wrong intelligence were they not. I hope tey blew away the right two guys in Boston. Especially if they were not alone as it may be hard to get evidence from dead or near dead witnesses.

See my thread in the Lounge.

The bloke on telly the other night showing the path of the police bullet through his apartment would probably think it was a case of overkill. It almost killed him.

Searush,

no it was police in London not SAS in Gibraltar, there was a militant chap whose Mini they cornered and riddled with gunfire, amazingly he survived.

I expect he was a bit peeved.

I have to agree that the gun madness of USA extends to the police force. It seems every cop wants to be in on the kill. Firing at anything that moves.
The US gun debate is a common subject of ordinary folk here in Oz. It seems to indicate that USA (Congress) has gone mad.

You have mis-understood my post, I apologise. I meant that the Joke related to the Gibraltar incident.

I mentioned the mini incident myself & added the tude train one too, both of which were disgraceful use of firepower based on faulty intelligence.

I agree. The British way of handling these situations (apart from perhaps one or two already mentioned occasions) seems to be much safer and controlled. On the basis that the objective can usually be achieved with one or two accurately placed shots by a skilled marksman, the use of multiple rounds by less than accurate shooters can only be dangerous (one dead officer). The unfortunate outcome here is that now we may never find out if these guys had accomplices, connections, other plans, etc. - or at best it will take a lot longer.

Just realised that this thread is maybe in the wrong forum? The boat connection is a bit tenuous...
