the Bruce you know, as NO relation with the Bruce developped for Oil plateforms.. except they have been "invented" by the same "Bruce.. "
It is interesting to make some research on various patents covering the anchoring field.. You will find a rather large number of different designs patented under the name of Bruce.. some quite differents from others..
I don't have any experience with the Oil plateforms anchors.. (my boat is a little bit too small for searching oil.. :0) ) but I've read all tests* where the Bruce anchor has been involved.. always the same results.. VERRY GOOD for digging in.. very poor holding.. (* Practical Sailor - Practical Boat Owner - Voiles Magazine - Voiles & Voiliers... )
