Mucky\'s Mamouth Mianderings Resumed!!

Well from tomorrow that is. Except theres the bit of varnishing to do, the table got scratched and then the rail wot LJ's crane broke wonts mending. I've got about a day to do all that before Debs comes down. Looks like I might be putting coats on underway!! Brush stokes might be a bit wiggly!!. So whats the weather going to do for the next 10 days. Is it a thrashing down to Falmouth. Or is the Scilly's on??
Lj said his crane wos completly knacked. Good!! Serves him bloody well right!!..../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Would like to find some places wot Deb aint been yet. She's been sea born since Febuary. Already done everything between Falmouth CI and Solent. Not bad for a newbie!! Suppose theres the little bits at top of high water to explore. Better find the tide table. Shes also hankering about a new dinghy. Suggestions on a post card please. Cant think wots up with mucky's old Avon, except the floors a bit knackered, Will a few bits of wood do!!! Anyway if the coffee table varnishing works. I'm told that two coats of gloss then a few satin is best. Then I might attack the dinning table that seems to have been attacked by some bloke with a big hammer. Dont remember LJ being loose down there!! She could do with a good polishing stem to stern. Cant see that getting done. Less some willing helpers came along. Suspect the cans will be out anyway and stop all this foolery!!.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Have you tried the polyureathane varinish in an aerosol form from Screwfix. I used it on some wood trim from the boat. Came up a treat. No brush marks either!

You're starting to sound like a raggie, or maybe you should pop over to PBO forum? - varnish, brushes, 30 quid, filling holes in grp.

Get a grip man! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I find that when varnishing a big horizontal surface like a table it pays to steer the brush diagonally across the grain. Sometimes even zigzagging across a particularly wavy grain will help stop the varnish splattering up as far as the bridgedeck.

Whatever you do don't just put the brush on autopilot, heading out to the outboard part of the table, as that is sure to result in brush marks on the table and varnish splatters all over the boat.

Have a fun time /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Pour a large quantity of varnish into the centre of table and start your engines, the vibration should be enough to spread the liquid evenly over the table, no brush marks to worry about!!!!!!!!
I did'nt get where i am today by being sensible, WHERE AM I TODAY ????????
