What are the chances of finding a company delivering a boat to the Med and looking for a return load?

Need to trailer a 47ft by 15.5ft boat from Monaco to Northern France or Uk?

Any ideas on who to contact.

The boat has not been moved from its mooring for the last 18 months (engines run on a regular basis). Personally I think (hope) it will be cheaper and safer to travel over land.

It'll be cheaper going north at this time of year, but not free. Thames Valley transport advertises in MBY (or has anyone got a number?) and may want it moved to somewhere on that coast with easier access, dunno. Ringem up and find out! Search for boat transport on this forum i think.

Where in the UK would narrow down the search. If you are just looking for Northern France then there are loads of boats going down to Med and not that many coming back (control yourself TCM) so I would suggest you phone Ken de la Hunty at Peters (Port to Port (number in MBY))or Chris Bugler whose number I have (he is in Poole) but dont have number here at present. Both quote about the same for return load. PM me if you need further details.

Just found out that we would need a Police Escort due to width of the load!

Now considering coastal hugging, canals or piggy back on a container ship.

Pleece escort no prob. Ours went from Chichester to SofF last september, with full pleece escort, it's normal, no prob, the trucking company look after all that stuff. That's what you pay your taxes for. We used Peters and May, cost about £6.5k, they were excellent, no damage to boat. Ours was a bit smaller, 42 foot hull, 44 foot LOA.

By coast it is that much in fuel, 150 engine hours, engine service midway (if 100hour intervals), 3 weeks maybe.

Ship costs similar amount, but there are only certain departure points in the Med. Palma, Gibraltar I think. Not monaco or cote d'azur. Google for zevenstar. Benefit of shipping is they do not need to dismantle radar arch, radar etc

Thanks, I have looked at Peters & May's website. I have sent them an email for a quote, hopefully it will be reasonable.

I did the same in September from just down the coast, Port Camargue. Speak to any of the transport people in mby and they can quote you for part load. As a side issue since we bought ours back it has done nothing but rain, snow and blow, think carefully, especially with flights to Nice so cheap right now. Were going to Nice and Malaga with a view of shipping it back out....again, its only money!! Good luck and check the insurance VERY VERY carefully. Our only damage was abroken VHF areial but in the end we paid for it.
