Since Good Friday until now I have seen one narrowboat and one Ocean 30 passing my home on the Thames, a neighbour says she has seen two Narrowboats. Anyone else seen more than me?
Looking at the state of the Thames I am suprised that you have seen as much traffic as you report . It seems dangerous to venture beyond the confines of the marina . Perhaps the narrowboat owners are particularly brave? However the water levels and current strength seem to be dropping slowly - we may all be out again by July !
Narrowboats brave? Foolhardy or ignorant more like they don't have enough power to turn and stem the flow. As regards 'real' boats I don't think it is the flow keeping them away after all the flow is no worse than a tide and only half the speed that flows in/out of somewhere like Langstone.
I was out on the Clyde at the weekend and it was astonishingly quiet. We don't have the traffic of the Solent or the Thames but Monday was a beautiful day and we more or less had the Kyles of Bute to ourselves. Certainly, Sunday was also sunny but had a stiff North Westerly keeping the temperature well down althougn that wind direction does not give too much of a sea state problem on the Clyde.
Off Largs was very busy due to national youth dinghy racing event but that was about it.
Had lunch in Wargrave and didn't see a single boat on the river. Looking at the speed of the current and the fact that all of the pontoons were below the surface I wasn't too surprised.
