Move from power to sail

The Tradewind is still built, and they are highly sought after secondhand within the OP budget, for a reason, because they make a Bavaria look stupid.

I cannot see anything in the OPs requirements about sellability. As I explained the boats you mention are totally unsuitable for what he needs. They are not bad boats, but when did anybody buy therm for family pottering.

And I have been there. Just like several others making useful contributions here I own a Bavaria. Why? because it is the very best thing I can buy with my own money to meet requirements not dissimilar from the OP except that my young children are grandchildren and I keep it in Corfu. I do also have an old fashioned craftsman built long keeler arguablyy of similar pedigree to the boats you mention but smaller. Guess who does of lot of singlehanding with that one!

Oh, and by the way, if you can find it I suggest you read John Rock (designer of the Tradewind) on his brief for the design- which incidentally was for his own use. Could not have been further from a family potterer. The ability to turn the cockpit into something like a jacuzzi while anchored off a Pacific Island was one requirement

A friend who has a couple of Whitbreads to his name and a few Sydney Hobarts and in his words too many Fastnets for his own Channel use has a.....

Bavaria for the simple reason he has swallowed the oceans acnchor.

I am amazed that I see so many world girdlers being used for weekends in the channel.

I had Moody's from 1986 - 2009 and now have a Jeanneau all good boats.

The tidy examples of Bavarias, Jeanneau, Hanse, Beneteau, Moody and Westerly sell quickly as I found out to my cost when looking earlier this year.... lesson was don't think too long...

The OP is moving from a mobo that is spacious and social, I think the AWB is a better fit than the world girdlers.

But until he has done the odd bit of training and the odd flotilla he doesn't know if he and his family will even like sailing!!!!

He might decide to look for a single screw mobo like a sea saga.

Nicho moved from power to a Bav 36 and back...
