Most effective locking washer?

So this got me thinking. My bronze prop went a bit pink, so it's been shot blasted primed with two coats of epoxy then 6 coats of trilux spray, the bronze tab locking washer fell apart, it's on a stainless 25mm tapered shaft , new stainless locking washer, surely a new stainless nut as well, but what size and thread will that be , volvo gear.

threadlock. mark the position and check regularly. failing that, just mark it and regularly check.

What if you cannot mark the position and check regular because in is either under water like a prop /prop shaft and any of the fixings inside an engine.

I just fitted a flywheel on to one of my boat engines before I fitted the gearbox which I will not be able to check without removing the gearbox and prop shaft

flywheel bolts normally have threadlock and generally engine bolts have already been engineered not to come loose.

My Perkins have 3 tab washers with 6 bolts holding the flywheel on to th end of the crankshaft

The bolt holding the timing gear unto camshaft have a tab washer locking the bolt on . The idler gear hace 3 bolts holding the retaining plate with a 2 holded tab washer locking those bolts from coming undone. Nona of these bolts can be inspected once the engine is finally assembled.

Yes loctite could be used but hey still cannot be checked

if it has a positive fixing then it does not need to be routinely checked or have threadlock. you cant just use multi tab washers in all situations like you can with threadlock.
