Any opinions on this oil from Force4? It’s cheaper than others but I know nothing about oil. Usually use Mobil Super 1000 15w40 but it seems to be discontinued and getting hard to find.
Thanks!

It’s an MD2040. Part of the issue is we don’t have good transport and local options are limited. The chandlery is the only place within walking distance from what I can tell but we can obviously go further afield if this oil is no good.

Thanks for that, it’s funny I buy everything from p4e but didn’t even think to buy oil! Now back into my usual “what else can I buy while I have an order” mode 😂

Morriss oils are good they seem to specialise in oil for older simpler engines which do not need the high spec oils. Morris are very easy to talk to they will tell you exactly what grade to use in your engine, They are nort"cheap Oils" just a little cheaper than the big suppliers The bigger oil companies are dropping old style oils and concentrating on oils for the modern car and truck markets. Morris also do a good range of oils to suit classic cars.

I have used Morris oils for years. They would deliver 5 gallon drums to my house, for no extra charge. Historic API stuff, maybe CD or similar, either 15w-40 or 20w-50.
I agree re Morris oils.

I also use Smith and Allan oils, who are a similarly UK based small manufacturer, very helpful folk, and reasonably priced. Even cheaper in 25 Ltr drums!
They do a 15/40 CF straight mineral sump oil, and a dextron ATF suitable for Beta saildrives.
Their Amazon prices are particulalry competitive if you already pay for Prime.

If you just want straight mineral oil Halfords no 2 is just that.
I dunno what this means:
IF as my AI has it ""Halfords number 2 oil" typically refers to their 15W/40 N2 part-synthetic engine oil" (and in this case its guess is as good as mine) then that couldn't reasonably be described as "straight mineral oil"

That term often describes a "straight weight" (i.e. not multigrade) oil. Though very unfashionable, there are reasons to like these, and I used one (China Petroleum Corporation SAE 40) in cars and motorcycles in Taiwan.

In miserably cold UK, not so much, and I very much doubt you will find any in Halfords

Which Morris oil are we talking about? Is it this one that Force4 currently list?

If it is, it would meet the spec for my MD2030D. Though it does not specify if it is mineral or synthetic or a mix (but neither does Volvo VDS3). For older engines (including MD2040s prior to "D") I expect it would be perfectly suitable although Morris Servol 15-40 mineral oil is closer to the original specified.

I mostly have been using Euro car parts Triple QX 15W-40 Mineral Engine Oil in my MD2030D, but I am not an oils expert!

Yes, it is interesting that the Halfords N2 says "Mineral" on the can, but the spec sheet says "part synthetic"

However, the spec looks OK for older engines, even though it does not specifically mention Volvo VDS.

Just says mineral oil on the actual container.

Actually the website seems to say that as well, so AI is perhaps gratuitously making stuff up again.

EDIT: As per above post, its presumably accessing the spec. sheet

I actually bought some of that for a quick oil change for the 1GM10 in my freshly bought neglected boat before I left for Taiwan.

Wasnt able to find out anything about it, particularly the TBN, so I dunno if I'd use it long term, but I reckoned it should be fine for a short term flush.

Yanmar specify a rather high base number, but may be assuming/have assumed high-sulfur fuel
