Moonraker 36 info

Hi, i have recently got myself a rather large project in the form of a Moonraker 36. it has been completly gutted out for a refit that unfortunatly the owner passsed away.

not sure how i am going to tackle the project but it will be over a good period of time..

what advice would anyone give on what equiptment i should be putting in it, im guessing i should be renewing as much as i can in way of electrics, controls etc. what are the must haves etc that i need to get.

also any ideas on cabin layout and finish? i will try attach a few pictures if i can.

i imagine the boat will mainly be on inland waterways unless i maybe take a mad notion and head to France for a holiday.

Perkins T6 - 354 not sure what power they were..

With a T then it is either a 145hp or 175hp very unlikely to be the 240hp
You can check the serial numbers and it will give you a clue, the starboard engine "may" be running in reverse direction, if there is an X in the serial number then it is a reverse engine. I have a 1978 Ocean 37 with HT6.354 engines of 145hp and the starboard engine rotates in the opposite direction. Spares for it are a little bit more difficult to come by. The "H" in mine means it is a horizontal engine.

My father's 1972 Moonraker 36 "Softrider" without flybridge had the 145hp Perkins. I think all the 175 equipped ones had "350" in large graphics on the side air intake panels. The version with no rear cabin is probably quite rare.

i only took a picture of one plate on top of the engine, and it says right hand rotation.. not sure what the other says... looking forward to learning more about them.. whats a Supa Sniffette guage for sniffing?
is it something that will need replaced, looks very old..

One thing, with our boat and a semi displacement hull that tops out at 16knots (30km/h) she is on the fast side for inland waterway use, even on one engine we are at the speed limit of a lot of the canals around here, at idle on one engine we are at 7.6km/h to 8km/h (4knt+) sog on two engines that rises by around 1km/h so most of the time the engines are at idle and you get a big build up of soot etc. in the exhausts and the engines don't really get warmed up enough.
Your boat will be a lot lighter, ours is around 10tonnes loaded with 450litres of water and 950liters of diesel, plus the wife, her wardrobe and myself

lol, when you add the wife it always goes up but when you add the wardrobe it then the reall challenge arises..
we are fortunate that the Fermanagh waterways open up into huge lakes so no problem getting the boat opened up and on boil..

Having owned a lotus for 12 yrs i was a fan of anything to do with lotus cars, including the moonraker. A boat built using vacuum assisted resin injection 50 years ago.

Congratulations you have a rare boat and a lot of work ahead of you !

You should be ok for engine parts availability as they will be ‘normal’ upright Perkins….engine serial numbers should give you the hp with a bit of Googling or ask on here…..

If you put into google Moonraker 36 aft cockpit there is a couple that have been for sale so you can take a look at the original layout for ideas…..
