Mixer taps

Ok…last night before bed, I tested the water out of the bathroom mixer and it was piping hot !!!…great ! The best boating problems are the ones that fix themselves.
This morning…disappointment 😧🥲 luke warm again
First I will go to the plumbing plan in the manual then I will try all your suggestions.
Any new ideas keep them coming because I won’t start work until my body has sufficiently limbered up😳
 
Have you bled all the taps from the closest to the hot water heater to the one the furthest away. Open each fully then the next etc etc. I had something similar after I had changed my element.
 
Ok quick update…tried bleeding..then I drained a bit of water from the tank (put the floor board back on before I read that Porto asked for a photo)
The water was stone cold…turned up the thermostat (which I think is just a cold water mixer) checked some electrics and then waited to see if it heated. No it didn’t…so switched off the hot water at the main power board.
Will do some more research but it looks like another element out job…the element was less than a year old so I am a little upset…can’t decide to do it here or wait till I get back to my home port

Well at least you can run the engine to get warm water for showers etc. That’s what I did when ours went (Saturday of course) until I could get a new element.

Do you have a multimeter?

maybe it's the thermostat...as Hurricane says, you need a multi meter

Worth checking b4 you drain water off..you can 'short it' just to test it...but only for test dont leave it !!!
If it is the element its possible electrolysis etching away at it,if so you should make sure it has a double pole isolation switch.
 
I will tackle it this afternoon...the tank is under the floor of the hallway outside the dogs bedroom...right now he’s using it so he can’t be disturbed

We have an inverter connected which is usually off .As @ anchor the geny can provide AC .

Also from experience berthing in Porquerolles the shore power AC is patchy switches off intermittently, so if he’s been there a while …….it might cool down .

He hasn’t specced in his posts exactly what system ( s) he has .We know it’s a single Cummins engine , but no mention YET of engine draw off hot water to heat a colorifer .You are assuming he has one .I am assuming he hasn’t as no mention of his set up in detail .Which would help .

MAN don’t do calorifers , outlets btw . I know smaller VP do them .

We will see like most tech problem threads what additional info is drip fed ( scuse the pun ) in later that was omitted in the opening post , and would have been helpful in giving advice.

Calorifiers have nothing whatsoever to do with the engine manufacturer.

I assume he has a calorifier, because on a boat, that's what it's called !

The fact you have a very basic setup has no relevance, it's pretty rare to have a hot water system that isn't heated by the engine and a total waste of energy. Mine is heated by either/both engines and has been since the boat was built in 1988. I have never owned a boat that hasn't heated the water by the engine.

is ridiculous. The most common system would be one where the engine also heats the water. Anything modern will have a thermostatic mixer valve. It is, and has been for some time, a legal requirement for domestic hot water systems to be fitted with mixer valves (not retrospectively). All of the decent calorifiers are fitted with them as standard these days.


The above does not guarantee the OP has a system where the water is heated by the engine or that he has a mixer valve, but as he has stated all water outlets throughout the boat are affected, it's worth mentioning.

Also standard on Isotemp calorifiers and no doubt others.

Do you have some sort of problem? Which bit of "mine didn't " dont you understand....which obviously means when I say "mine didn't " some do and some dont.
Whether the previous owner had a component removed I can't say, but there was no obvious evidence.

The hot water calorifier in my boat was as fitted new when the boat was built, it had a pressure relief valve and was heated by immersion heater and/or engine cooling water.
It did not have any mixing water temperature control system. So maybe some didn't as obvious not all did.
I really dont see what you are trying to say.
Maybe mine was not a "Surecal"

Bouba, I'm not sure if you're on shore water, but I had something similar a few weeks ago when all the hot water was luke warm. I first thought it was the element, but later found out that someone had left one of the cockpit sinks running a small stream of hot water, so the tank couldn't heat up properly. As I was on shore water there was no water pump running to warn me. Or your element is shagged.

No...it’s not heating any water. I went to inspect it but was beaten at the first hurdle...I couldn’t get the plastic protective cover off😳🤔...I don’t understand it, I put on with the same tools that are on my boat now....tomorrow, when I’m bound to be in a calmer mood I will try again
 
Elements don’t work then do work , defo not element.
