Mistake on Navionics

I wouldn't worry too much as If you zoom in you will find the Lagoon correctly identified. I very much doubt anybody is going to navigate much past Port Merion with anything other than a hovercraft!

I've reported it to the link. Didn't realise it was different at different zoom level. TSB, I'm planning to explore the port merion area this year in my shallow draft bilge Keeler.

You might find latest Google Earth images are handier than anything else for finding your way. Lots of kayakers use that area. I explored it many years ago in a GP14. We launched upstream of where the old toll bridge was by the Cooke's explosive depot. I remember lots of punting over shallows! Good luck with your twin keels!

I plan to go in on the flood, stay overnight and come out on the ebb. Probably won't go much past Port Meirion. Will take care not to get neaped!

We had an issue with missing navigation marks in the Morbihan. As reported above, the mark was there on one magnification level but missing on another. Very peculiar.

The paper chart was correct at all magnifications. Didn't mater whether we used our glasses or a magnifying glass, the mark stayed there. Lesson, for us, was re-learnt.

Did it disappear when you zoomed in, or when you zoomed out?

Removing items on zooming out is necessary and expected - obviously you can't show every single charted object on a 9" view covering Mousehole to Salcombe, say. Though it's true that my old C70 plotter did often seem to remove things one zoom-out-step earlier than I would have liked; the Axiom that replaced it seems to do a better job. If it's removing marks on zooming in then that does seem odd.

I too like to check a paper chart of an unfamiliar area, for an overview with all the important items shown. I'd be happy to look at the same thing on a screen, but I don't want to try to cram a 36" screen onto the boat.

BTW, I had a email from Navionics last night.

And they said ?
I once reportedl an reef which lead out to an small island in Greece that wasn't on the chart ,first I was told it was a private island and they not aloud to put private island on the chart , once I emailed them back and told them that it was total nonsense, that then told me they would look into it and offed me a free chart e following year once it has ll been updated , guess what ? When I down loaded the new chart some 18 months later , it still didn't show the reefor the very large rock/island .

They said it has been referred to the cartography department. No mention of freebies but I'm optimistic.?

It is commonly quoted that If you can get to Port Meirion by boat that you get free access to the Italianate jungle. Personally, I hate the place with a capital H and they should have to pay me to visit!
