Misery

Boating is a different sort of hobby.....if you like stamp collecting or painting.....you can just say, I’m bored...time to move on to a different activity. But boating has such a huge financial commitment....it’s nearly impossible to get out of....it’s like being blackmailed. So yes, I enjoy it....I couldn’t tell the wife anything else
It’s not necessary to own a boat to go boating.

Dunno. I used to, but I'm only a potential sailor at the moment.
Im quite enjoying being a picky poster though.
For example, your question has an element of circularity, Joy,<>Happiness-wise
Ah! Feel better already

Does anyone here actually get joy from sailing about and being happy?
We do. Now in your neck of the woods. Left Falmouth on the 15th August. Great sail to Porto Santo. Hiked and wingfoiled for a few days then onto Madeira for a couple of night before sailing to Grasiosa. Now hiking and wingfoiling before heading to Santa Cruz for a spot in a marina. We don't do that often but we have friends to visit. Life is good😀

Can recommend the restaurant on the beach in the village. Plastic tables, feet in the sand. Happiness!!

Yes even on a weekend when we went aground due to depth gauge issues, and went adrift due to storm waves breaking a doubled mooring line

We had had a cracking sail to the Yealm, a fine meal at the Ship watching their post regatta frolics, then a cracking sail back to Plymouth Sound - then the above mentioned incidents - followed by our own YC Regatta, a peaceful night in the Dandy Hole and a motor sail to St Germans YC next day

Mucking about in boats, with problems to keep us on our toes, and minor costs.

We do, although Oban is testing us this morning with confused waves entering the marina, strong winds and rain. We do have bacon from the Mull farm shop though, so all is not lost!

Makes me happy nearly every time. Weather forecasts a bit all over the place at the moment which is definitely leaving me in suspense as to what kind of fun I get to have this weekend.

Been back from a 2 month sailing around Peloponnese Ionian and a bit of Aegean what a great season

That was us last night. A very slight dampener on our enthusiasm, the XOD has a very full mainsail, with foot sliders. That allows rain to accumulate in the bag of the sail, along the boom. Speed and dexterity is required when tacking, or a large bucketful will be dumped on your head with every tack. We bore it with fortitude.

This is the kind of misery I have to put up with on a regular basis ....

If you try that where I sail, we do have crocodile and hippo's swimming in our marina and the canal where my boat is moored, not to speak of the sharks that sometimes swim in the sea and lagoon.

The sailing is OK. Better if it is a fast passage & a good bit of navigation involved for fun.
.Departure can be a bit difficult if I have got marina bound & am staring at white water out there
Ok once sails are set & settled in though.
Set the aries. Wedge in the cockpit & sometimes have 10 mins nap
But what I really used to like was arriving at the port. Fenders & lines out, sails down engine on, Call port control & in we go
Best of all a new place, or one not often visited, down a rocky river like Teguier, or L'aberwrach.
I like arriving at night. The little Russel from the Alderney race at night is typical fun. Knowing that one is going to a really great welcoming port.
No anchoring for me. A nice secure berth every time
