'mini' canvas hand 'sewing machines'

Re: \'mini\' canvas hand \'sewing machines\'

I would suggest you try an ordinary domestic sewing machine. Sure you can't get through several layers of heavy sail cloth but you would be surprised how many jobs you can acheive and of course second hand they can be very cheap. will

google "reeds sewing machine" and you will find all the information you need.

Re: \'mini\' canvas hand \'sewing machines\'

I think you are looking for the hand jobbie not a machine. I have seen them here but cannot remember where and I bought one from West Marine USA. It looks a perfect thing for occasional repair jobs on canvas etc, but I haven't used mine at all yet to say how well it works. I think from memory it was onlyabout $20/£11

Re: \'mini\' canvas hand \'sewing machines\'

I used (not anymore) to read "Cruising World" for almost 20 years. Hundreds of ads selling "Reeds sewing machines". So I typed in Google "reeds sewing machine" and already the third entry was a hit.

I have learned (thru Google) that "Reeds" is not anymore. West Marine and Defender do not list them anymore. Sorry.

Here is a link to some interesting information about sewing machines:

My boat has not sufficent room to carry one and in the tropics it is very cheap to find someone doing the work for you.

Try:

J & J Read (Sewing Machines) Ltd
336 Shirley Rd
Southampton
Hampshire
SO15 3UP

Tel: 023 8077 1398

They supplied us with a new hand drive attachment for our sewing machine at a reasonable price. Presumably they sell whole machines also.

Re: \'mini\' canvas hand \'sewing machines\'

I saw one simlar to the one I bought in the USA , yesterday at Aladdins cave for £11 so I was spot on if that was what you were talking about.
