Hello Everyone,

Having recently bought my first boat, it came with several covers. Some of them are badly stained with Mildew. Does anyone know if its possible to clean or dye canvas covers ?

Any advice would be appreciated

YBW Marine Store do various cleaning products. Click on "Shopping" on top menu bar, select YBW Marine Store, and search on "canvas".

See "Sail and Canvas Cleaner" and "Impregnating Spray".

No connection with YBW MS, nor have I used either product, just trying to help.

I removed the green mossy stuff on my cover by giving it a good scrub with lots of washing up liquid, it even seems to discourage further growth.

I have a white spray hood which had a lot of green algae on it, I put it in the bath with plenty of Biological washing powder and scrubbed - did it twice and although it did not look much better, when fitted on the boat was considerably better. Also spray proofed the outside(would use Grangers solution next time - painted on)the spray was expensive and was only just enough.

I've used the mildew stain remover from Starbright. It worked well on one of the short persons life jackets. Gave it 2 applications and it removed 99% of the stains(God, I sound like a tv ad) Its not really that expensive for about £6 a bottle spray just under a litre.

It says on the blurb on the label "Spray on wipe off". In reality no, not really. Spray on, leave for half an hour, rinse, spray on leave for half hour, rinse. Works though I'll give it that. The jacket was quiet heavily stained

Wha'dya mean "I'm always playing with this engine" its the only way to get it to run!
