It is over 10 years since I last went to the Midlands Boat Jumble at the Three Counties Showground Malvern which was quite good as it is was part inside and outside

Having moved last year back down to Shropshire has anyone been in more recent years and would they go again this year on 1st February

Mike

I went about 3 years ago and it's very like the one at Newark - OK but gradually deteriorating.
There are far fewer car boot type stalls and the whole thing is mainly traders, often the same ones year on year.
Antifouling and paints used to be on several stalls, but now only one or two (Premier Paints are good, but there used to be be old stock of International, Blakes etc dented tins etc all going ridiculously cheap. Where have they gone?)
I don't seem to find quite as many true bargains as I used to, although I have done most of the jobs I need to do and have bought all the things I generally needed, so I'm not looking with quite as much urgency as a few years ago.
On the whole boat jumbles are still good for:-
Rope
Clothing
Tools
second hand books
sound proofing, hose, step tread
Bilge paint
Fenders

Other stuff is pot luck.
It's always an interesting morning out if there are things you need to buy though.

I'm also in Shropshire but at the Northern end and I'm not convinced it's worth a four hour round trip for stuff that I can get cheaper online, the same reason I didn't go to SIBS and I'm giving LIBS a miss.

We went to a jumble near Whitchurch recently. Had a good rummage round and bought several items. A lot of them are a bit disappointing these days as eBay has made it less profitable for stallholders.

Can't remember the exact location. There was some canal boat stuff but I bought some rope and a Guardian Alloy Anchor. My mate bought a trailing log and other stuff. I would have bought a pair of neoprene waders but ran out of money.
I think the event was advertised on here.
Here's details of this year's Sunday 6 September 2015. Northern Boat Jumble. Open 10:00. MIDDLEWICH, Cheshire. CW4 7LN. 350 yards from junction 18 of M6. Admission £3.50, accompanied children and car park free. Chaddock and Fox Promotions Telephone 01329661896 or 07771962495 or E Mail. Map link to venue here.
Take plenty of cash - there's nowhere to get any.

There's cash machines in Holmes Chapel and Middlewich and the garage on the way into Holmes Chapel, about a mile and a half, 1 mile and half a mile away approx, respectively, agree though it's better to take the money with you.

Same here, I'm 15 mins away and knew nothing

+ 1 as I also live about 15 mile south of Whitechurch.

I will try the Midland Boat Jumble this time weather permitting as I found the last time (albeit 10 years ago) that as it was the first boat jumble on the calendar and many stalls were getting rid of old stock
some at reasonable prices so you had the first choice!

We will see and its a morning out!

I should have made the smiley bigger :)

Yes I agree it is surprising just how many boat owners live in this area, we should have a meet up and put the world right at a local.

We moved last year back from Northumberland to be nearer family but after looking all around the West coast/Wales etc I could not find anywhere with 24/7 sea access other than Milford Haven and Holyhead as my idea of sailing is not to have to keep looking at my watch to get back for the last lock and the drive to both is not exactly quick.

Like all of us travelling time and distance expense is another big factor together with Marina berthing, I currently drive just over 4 hours (98% on motorways) as I keep the boat up at Royal Quays Marina on the Tyne where we have 24/7 all year tidal access and I can be offshore in 2 1/2 mile from the marina,12 month berthing is currently £253/m per annum - 2 1/2% discount if payed up front.

Im not a sailor as such but do own a day cruiser, but have a big interest in boating and small outboards. I work a couple of miles from there. Could i turn up at the Compass one Thursday?

A pint at the Compass looks like and idea. Have to check the work/sailing schedule!

My boat is kept in the marina in Empuriabrava, about 5 hours door to boat via Ryanair and I admit to being a fairweather sailor these days!

Went to the Malvern boat jumble today.
Not bad. A bit like a scaled down Beaulieu and all under cover at the Three Counties Showground.
i bought a kids life jacket, a boat hook, a pickup bouy and some cheap and nasty cockpit seats.
lots of old stuff to root thought.

i wish I had not already bought my antifouling . There were some 2.5ltr tins of Hempel Cruiser going for £29.
old stuff though.

Seems to be a lot of sailors in Shropshire considering that it's about as far from the sea as you can get! :)

The land location remotest from open sea is at Lat. 46º16.8'N, Long. 86º40.2'E in the Dzungarian Basin, which is in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, in the far north-west of China.

Coton in the Elms is a village and parish in the English county of Derbyshire. It is located five miles south of Burton upon Trent. South east of the village is Church Flatts Farm, which is defined by the Ordnance Survey as the farthest point from the sea in Great Britain.

No offence intended !

Yep also went today and at least it was out of the wind.

Better than I expected and would guess about 30 stalls mainly traders, bought a McDuff pear shape anode for £18 with backing plate and nuts, plenty of last years antifoul around at keen prices pity about the lack of technical back up, I asked one guy had he got any 'Jotun antifoul' and he did not know what is was :)

Stacks of yacht pulleys, rope/halyards, fenders and stainless steel fittings at good prices, however a bacon butty at £4 was a no no ;) as any boat jumble do your homework on prices before you go !!
