Any other forumites using this new developement yet?
It`s still in it`s infancy but water and power are now on ( about 2 months late - but it is Greece) and there are 20 odd yachts on the hard and a similar number staying the winter on the new lazy lines. Loads still to do but the Jannis and his team are working like mad to get it organised. Nice to use a place where they are really trying and keeping the prices down.

We are hoping to go there next year, and use it to leave the boat when we are not there.

Not knowing the area, what is it like? being in a salt marsh area, is it full of Mosquitoes? Perhaps that won't matter as we will be away, and would not plan on staying there much, other than for layup.

We like it. Don't recall mosquitoes being more of a problem there than elsewhere. It's an unusual place, very low-lying along the coastal strip, good for cycling. Turtles are common in the basin but photographing them is extremely tricky. I have lots of pictures of concentric ripples in the water where one just submerged but so far no turtles.

Biggest problem with it is that it's some way from anywhere that you would want to cruise to. It's a long drag to the west around Oxia to Goat Island, which is in the middle of nowhere, then another longish drag north to Kalamos or elsewhere in the inland sea. Eastwards the nearest nice place is Trizonia, also a good day's sail. To the south a couple of less than attractive ferry ports, some way away. Straight out west is Zakinthos, about my least favourite Greek island, also some distance.

We see it as very much a transit port, or over-wintering. Can't see it becoming a popular flotilla base, thankfully, for these reasons.

Vyv, thats very helpfull. So, good for leaving the boat. I liked the look because it looked so sheltered (viz Cleopatra). So 1 days sail to get to anything nice?

By the way - I got hold of a passerelle S/H from this forum for half price - almost unused! Just need to get a mounting point on the transom for the inbord end.

If it is the single pin 25mm type such as that made by Trem, you can get spare sockets from Force Four code number 850269. Was £14.95 when I bought mine last year.

We look like ending up there next winter as well. The price looks good and a lot of the work will be done by the time that we get there around October. We will leave Port Napoleon in May and work our way down past Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily. We would like to stay in the water next year so places like Preveza don't really work and Gouvia/Lefkas are quite expensive in comparison.

Jim (I presume) - we won't be far behind you, April 1st into the French Canals - 6 weeks to Port Napolean, then on to the Ionian.

Look out for us Chris - Moody 425 with Siempre painted large on the bows (previous owner!). If you want to know about Port Nap please contact me.
Jim

I suppose Port Napolean is where we come out into the Med and get the mast put up again. What is the typical berthing charge in May? we are a 40ft Westerly Oceanlord - Carina - on dark blue dodgers.

I think we will do a fairly rapid transit of the canals - I have just realised we draw 1.7 mtr instead of 1.5! so I hope we can still fit. Always knew it was 5ft 6 ins - I got the tape measure out and made the realisation!!!!

Hope to see you,

Chris

Messolonghi marina.

So far, so good, a good live-aboard crowd here, BBQ most Sundays, honesty bar behind office, 5 min's on bike (10-15 min's on foot) from 'City Centre', good markets on Tue's & Sat - food prices cheaper than Italy. Depends what you want really?

The marina is still very much work in progress, but everybody has access to water, electric, hot showers (if you avoid the rush hours!) and toilets ashore. The pontoons are safe and wide, and so far we are alongside not bow/stern to, although stern to would be better for us.

I/the 'Royal we' like it, and so do the kids.

Chris, you would come out of the Rhone at Port St Louis so you will have the choice of Navy Service or Port Napoleon for re-masting. PN has a good web site with all the onfo on it plus the staff are very helpful. We used David Berry (DS Marine) for a lot of work and although somewhat overworked they did a good job. There is a very good Stainless guy based at Navy Service and DB had his contact, also a good English electrician. It has to be said that the current exchange rate doesn't help though. Both PN and NS are reasonably priced but you will want to stay in the water so PN is best. Port St. Louis is an open port with no security.

Messolonghi marina.

So far, so good, .
Have you any first hand comments of the effects of the 5.9 quake today. My boat is on the hard at Preveza marine, but I think, you were slightly closer to the epicenter at Messolonghi.

I `m glad the boats ashore are all ok -- we were lifted a week or so ago and are now home for a short while. There are using some hefty cradles so they should be fine.

If you see Richard & Debbie from "Pretty Girl" ( another Catalina 42 like ours) give him our regards and ask him if he has finished polishing our boat yet!!
