Anyone else a few marbles short of a bag,who bought a boat with geriatric volvo outdrives take heart.
Due to annoying "thrummming whine " from back of boat, decided to bite the bullet and sort out bearings in transom shield.
My O/Ds are 280 but 290 or 270 are prob very similar .
Because the bearings will only come out one way you will need to remove leg and shift engine about 12" forward to remove alloy housing holding bearings.
We moved our engine using a tripod of scaffolding and block and tackle.
The knackered bearings can be knocked out with drifts(old socket set bars) after spring clips have been removed.
Both bearings are available for a around £20.00 THE PAIR,if you pay more you have been done.Buy your new shaft seals from Coastal Rides and your total bill will be around £40.00 max.Plus new gaitors if you need them.
Dirty grotty job,but well within the reach of the average hammer merchant like me.
Another forumite Emailed me some very usefull pix of the whole operation and am happy to pass them on if you intend having a go.
Good luck.
