Hi all, update on the plans for Saturday 11th July 2009
Well as I'm unable to walk too well at the moment, don't ask
I have to admit I haven't been able to make it to The Ship Inn at Fosdyke today, which I planned to do in an effort to post the menu. But the gathering is still on, and I've had a few phone calls and PM's asking what's going on, so the plan is to meet up, either on the pontoon or in the pub, have a bite to eat if you fancy, and slurp a drink or two if I must

It would be good to see a few known people, and even better to meet some new ones, so if you can post some names and numbers here I'll have a go at getting a menu on Tuesday. Nothing too fancy about the food, just good old hearty nosh, so let me know who's coming and let's make it a good one

Whilst YBW has been down (excellent decision Dan and Richard) the plan has been growing elsewhere and so far we have

Self & Louise - With boat and new family member ;)
Joe & Connor - With boat unless we have unpleasant weather :o
Ken & Ali - With boat as per Joe
Ggt - With boat hopefully if he extracts a digit
Nathan - With boat hopefully if he can tear himself away from the girls :ooo:

Not a bad start for such a quiet area :smirk:

Hoping to get the me and you later this evening so if anyone else wants to join in, stick your name down and let's make it a good one

Excuse the wierd smilies, think that's down to forum protection mode so we can live with that :ooo:

Liz and I are planning to come..by land. I met my first forumites in Anglesey last week..and survived.

I'm whizzing past Fosdyke twice a day as I'm working in Holt in Norfolk all this week, so the braincell is getting its daily reminder.

looking forward to meeting one and all.

Tim {I'm doing somethign wrong..can't get my link to work)

Don't know why it doesn't work as a link, but copy paste and it gets there
Might not be able to post the menu without typing it all out but we may not need to
Hoping to hear from Wainfleet and Baston soon though probably not until Thursday, but in any case, I'll see if I can sort out the big YBW forum burgee so it's flying where we are

Dave I cant remember if I have already declared on this one as such but next weekend is "theatrebarbiefest" for us with an all day do in Surrey on Saturday with the crowd I worked with last year and a kip on the sofa of an old friend saturday pm, followed by a similar bash on Sunday with the folk I have signed up to for this year, but somewhat closer to home.

I hope it all goes well at Fosdyke.

Matt, just typed out a long response to your message then lost the whole thing so will try again .................

No no no no no no no no no no no no, but note that this is NO slight on Dave's organising abiltites/choice of venue etc etc :) :) :)

I once sailed overnight to reach Santorini by daylight and did so in time to catch the sunrise over the sheer magnificence of what is Santorini, and sailed into the North entrance at dawn with Pavarotti on the stereo. Breathtaking doesn't even come close. It was unforgettable, and I jest not.

If you have been there before and it is "your thing", then you will know what to expect. If you haven't, then you are in for a real treat. Santorini is probably in my top 5 most beautiful places on earth, no joke. What it is, and the history behind it, is quite simply stunning.

If you are sailing whilst there then dont do what I did which was to sail to the inner island (the live volcano bit - cant remember what it is called) and tie up to the harbour overnight. the rats came en masse (and I'm not joking !!!), I wimpered and didnt sleep, they poo'd everywhere, and I learned a lesson. Do though tie up to a jetty perhaps a mile to the east as you enter from the north where there is a small cafe, and stairs up to the "rim".

I have been 3 times now, and will never tire of the place. My long term plans of course include elements of the Med, but specifically, I want to include Santorini itself. Enjoy :).

I'm dis custard u can,t make it :DI'm sure it will save me a fortune though :smirk:Next time mebbe ?
Cheers Joe

Next time ? for sure .......The way the ECF seems to work would suggest to me that having the major events (fitted up / ostend / pirate / laying down / a.n.others etc) planned (ie dated) as far in advance as poss might not be a bad thing. The problem is that would involve organisation and committees and quorums (quora ???) and and and. And maybe that's why the ECF is so bloomin good cos it hasn't got any. And I dont think I'm the first to say this either, but its true.

Alan, I think one of the problems with trying to organise well in advance may be that people want to make it, and say they will, but when the time comes they can't, so maybe feel bad about it. No problem if people can't make it, seriously, it's just a night out with mates that's all. Only expense on my part as far as organising goes is that I have to drive to the marina and call in for a pint at the pub. Hell, it's not easy, but I can live with that
Burp
Would be good if people from other areas could make it, but I know it would mean a long drive for some

Dave, about a month ago, longer in fact, Tanya and I sat down and did the diary thing. At that time, and it has "worsened" since, we were "fully booked" until mid September. It would certainly be better for me if I could carve in stone key dates as far in advance as poss. Its not the drive that would put me off (or indeed the rather attractive long sail), rather the clash of dates with pre-booked other stuff going on, if you get what I mean.

I've been to Santorini, and what a stunning place it is. Got to add, though, with my legs, Fosdyke is a more attractive destination.
The "harbour steps" up to the town have to be experienced to be believed!

Dave, nice to see another venue conquered on behalf of the ECF marauding hordes. Sorry we cant be there, we are off to Liverpool for a Graduation ceremony at the Uni.

I agree with Alan - our diary is now blocked out to mid September!

Meet at Tabs Head around high tide, turn around and come back in, seemples
Seriously though, forward planning comments accepted, will advise with more notice for other plans. Had a chat with Matt a short time ago and it's possible we may be able to arrange something at Peterborough Yacht Club, or Wisbech, as we have some on here from both
