@ashtead, yes I'm glad you raised that point. I've never been to turkey - had always assumed too hot, but geographically the parts of turkey with flotilla's aren't really that much further south than bits of greece. The internet (which is of course 100% infallible!) suggests to me that late July and august are the "worst" times for temp. Ideal for us would be low 20's but we would be OK in the high 20's when sailing. What I'm not sure about is what these things are like when anchored up not moving and its 30 deg outside (or say overnight in high teens)? I'm more used to keeping hatches closed and worrying about getting the heating on than being too hot!

I don't think we are likely to go out of season, availability for holidays probably makes the last week in June or first in July the only options this year.

Have you tried Sailing Holidays? Looks like one week end June in Ionian would be not too much over £4K , flights from Manchester....

I've had two flotilla holidays with Sailing Holidays around the Greek Islands and enjoyed both very much - once they realise you know what you are doing you will be able to go off by yourself and you can mix with other crews as much or as little as you want. As mentioned the heat may get to you in June/ July, but it is cooler on the water, but great for swimming!

Perhaps have a look at a delivery trip for Sailing Holidays. basically, their fleet winters in Corfu, so at the start and end of the season they need boats delivering to where flotillas are based. Advantages to you (the OP) would be that they are discounted, and take place when the weather is still temperate. Downside is that the weather can be more challenging and some towns that you visit may not be fully 'open' for summer yet. Maybe worth a thought.

Doesn’t tend to work well for a family for multiple reasons - wrong timing for school holidays, and also forced to do long legs to keep to a fixed delivery schedule.

If you go to Turkey without AC remember to pack some muslin to spread across the hatches to keep the flies etc out plus plenty of insect spray. It’s probably fine anchored. Up drifting around but if you have static nights in a marina in July it’s cab be hot in jersey let alone Turkey. I’m sure it’s fine if the yacht has fans and windscoops but will an average charter yacht on flot be that well kitted? Maybe Croatia might be cooler even if costing more. Trogir is worth a visit in itself. I seem to recall we chartered years ago via holiday broker in Edenbridge.

Another downside is that the delivery from base is also a shakedown cruise and the year we did it there were all sorts of faults with flotilla boats that had to be sorted out before the trip could get going!

We took the kids on their first Sailing holiday in Greece as a one off five years ago. We've been back every year since then......

We're not a sociable family to be honest but find the relaxed 'come and go' nature of the flotilla holidays suits us well. I keep thinking about bareboating but like the idea of having a spot in a harbor saved for you by the lead crew and them guiding you on the radio in if needs be. Makes for a more relaxing holiday which is what its about.

No deals this year (or last) so paying full price seemed to be the order of the day. TBH if you want to go in the summer holidays you might struggle to find a boat now as most companies downsized during the pandemic and are running smaller operations.
