MDL strike again!

In MDL Chatham wifi is not password protected. Had this confirmed by some guests onboard who connected immediately. Multiple base units and pretty good speed.

It certainly was just a few months ago - all MDL WiFi is delivered by the same ISP. It's a captive portal - the WiFi itself does not require a password, but you need to subsequently log in to the portal before you can access anything interesting on the internet. They give you free access to a handful of sites.

Last week it certainly needed a password, that's where my info came from

It was certainly not password protected at Chatham for several days in late August when we were there.
I expect it certainly will be now that someone has raised it on here. I'd kept quiet about it.....

MDL WiFi works pretty much the same as the public wifi in shops like Starbucks and McDonalds. There is no password set on the wifi access point itself, but once you are connected, you need a user ID and password to access anything on the internet.

I don't think any of us really expect marina wifi to be any good. In most marinas, it's patchy or dire. As a visitor in a Premier marina last month, the wifi signal was OK but connection was limited to 4 hours a day, so you had to keep logging on and logging off, and the passwords seemed to change randomly and frequently. I usually rely on tethering to my phone.

If I've paid £4.99 for WiFi (see earlier posts), I certainly expect it to be "any good".
