MDL Northney Marina

After some information on Northney Marina such as access restrictions, tide restrictions, time to get to Sea, Chichester Harbour entrance etc. Anyone on here got a Berth there?

On about berths available and slight thread drift here.

Anyone want a 12m berth in Lymington yacht haven for 6 weeks from beginning of may, on O pontoon so nice view over river, its a sublet and is 100% confirmed legal by the manager of LYH, also know of 50ft berth in Gosport for long lease from owner pm me if interested in either and ill forward details on.

was there for a few years.
Pro: peaceful location,easy access to A3;friendly place;newish shower block
Cons: 20-30 mins to harbour entrance; you are right at east end of Solent; sometimes a bit of swell in the entrance,ranging to occasionally a hell of a swell. Some sailing/racing dinghies are a real pain the in ****. Best anchorage just off West Wittering can turn into a major car(boat) park.
Main problem was that we always ended up going westwards, so we moved more central.

You get a discount at the hotel, bar, bar food and restaurant, and petrol station at end of road has mini supermarket. Active cruising club,I think.

No prob with tides or access;few people seem to run aground each year, though, but just observe the channels.

Been there a few years, the channel is "dreged" to 2 metres but there are lumps in it, -/+ 2 hours MLWS is the safe in and out, the depth by sweare deep used to be the same at Chichester Bar so if touch there going out the'll be water by the time you get to the Bar.

Don't try the bar in a F7 or above from the S/SE other than 2 hrs either side of HW even then it's v lumpy!

Friendly staff helpful, good pontoons and toilets/showers fairly new and clean.

15 minute walk to the Ship over hayling bridge, another 5 gets you to the better on on the water a bit further, less passing holiday makers in the royal oak.

shop (spar in garage) has off licence bakery type stuff. Langstone hotel 5 mins 20% discount for berth holders.

All services catered for repairs, chandlery has nothing engineering wise (err what is locking wire was the question)

A generly quiet place to be and at 7 knots you are an hour to the Bar and open sea.

We're into our third season at Northney now. Agree with most of what's been said by others. We like the place - it's quiet, friendly and laid back. Time to the entrance is about 30-45 minutes depending on whether you're punching the tide or not. Marina entrance channel and some parts of Sweare Deep at LWS can be a touch shallow, but in a mobo it's really only an issue at the very bottom big tides, though it can be nerve wracking when the mud banks either side of the entrance are several feet about the water, and you need to stick well within the withies too, some of which are left stranded in the mud. Dinghies can be numerous near HISC and occassionally elsewhere, but don't generally cause too much of a problem as they don't often set their course across the whole channel.

The entrance can be interesting...... for example we were out yesterday and ended coming back at full ebb - tide was running at nearly four knots past Eastoke and some largish standing waves (~1m) out over the bar, and it was only blowing an F4.

just moved in!

Just moved the boat from Brixham to Northney so its a lot closer to home (50 mins vs 3 hrs!) Just starting to explore and fancy a trip to the IOW (or anywhere else really!) Anyone at Northney/Sparks planning a trip there? Wouldn't mind tagging along for the routes etc for few times to get familiar with the area. Nothing like being shown the local haunts and areas and do's and don'ts etc.... We enjoy exploring, but could do with some local kowledge.

Any cruising clubs at Northney or Sparks or Chichester perhaps?
