Can anyone tell me approximately what fuel consumption I should expect from a Volvo MD2020 installed in a 32ft sailing cruiser with a standard 2 bladed prop?
My 2002 (elderly 18hp) averaged 1.54 lit./hour last season.
Mostly extracting / returning to marina berth, a couple of long motor sails at about 2000 rpm, a few good thrashes to blow out the cobwebs (sounds nasty but very necessary) and a bit of battery charging.
That was pushing a Westerly Fulmar, 32 ft and well over 5 tonnes with all the junk we carry.
My MD11C (or is it D?) averaged approx 1.6 liters / hour during the last 10 years / 1000 hours.
Mostly motoring in/out of harbour, motor sailing at 1500/1800 rpm. Some long windless legs at 2200/2300 rpm, 6knots.
Patootie is 35 foot, 6,5 tons.
Thanks everyone, for giving about the same answer! I was trying to work out the range on a tankful of fuel for my Beneteau 311, as i am a bit suspicious of the gauge and would hate to run out, just at the wrong time. So I am assuming 1.5 litre/hour approx. Only problem now is that the handbook says the tank is 70 litres and the brochure says 80! So I am working on the basis of 40-50 hours running time.
