I read the advice in the similar thread (Oct/Nov 03) and tried to cure my leak by replacing the pump shaft seal 'in situ'.
Unfortunately this did not work. So maybe the shaft is worn and I now have to remove the pump. I have tried and failed.
The Jabsco pump is secured to my 1995 vintage Volvo MD 2020B by four bolts.
Two have their heads at the front of the pump and are no problem. The other two have their heads behind the pump and are threaded into the body of the pump.
They are inaccessible without some major engine dismantalling. Or so it appears to me, am I missing something?
I am reluctant to embark on further dismantalling to access the pump bolts without a workshop manual for the MD2020. The local Volvo agent says that individual maintenance or installation manuals for each seperate engine system fuel, transmission, electrics etc, are all that is available.
Any advice on the problem of removing the pump or the availability of a DIY workshop manual for the MD2020 would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm. I have the Perkins Perama M20 which is the same base engine as the Volvo Penta 2020. I have certianly removed my pump and replaced the seals, but I can't remember how it was done. I don't remember any problems at all and once on the bench it was an easy job getting seals and bearings from Bearing Services Ltd.(about ¼ the price of VP) Ring up your local VP dealer, as for a price for a Seal & Bearing kit, and then ask them how to remove the pump. With luck they will advise if they think you will buy the spares from them . Try VOLSPEC at Tollesbury, Tel 01621 869756 - I've always found them helpful.

Thanks for the info Dick.
Yours must be different because I do not think you would forget taking the pump off with my arrangement.
The only way it appears possible is to remove the casing from the front of the engine which will involve removing the lower belt pulley.
I am not sure what to expect behind the casing but presumabley I will expose the
flywheel, the crankshaft and disturb who knows what other internal workings.I will aslo have to disconnect the kill switch mechanism and throttle control.
Without a workshop manual I am a bit reluctant to blunder off into the unknown behind the casing especially as some of the attached gubbins is quite difficult to see and working out how something came apart and goes back together purely by feel is in my experience doomed to fail.
However I think I have now sourced a workshop manual which hopefully will give me the info and confidence to proceed.
In the usual way of the customer focused boating world (Note for any US readers:- this is irony), 1515 hrs on Friday was too late to get the manual in the post and it won't be despatched before Monday ! Hey ho.
