1)Page 22 talks 4th paragraph talks of a 30 foot 26 knot sportsboat with a single 170hp KAD32 diesel. Can anyone tell me what sort of boat this might be? I have asked MBY but they do not reply. What sort of fuel consumption is this likely to have?

2)Same article talks of a 170hp KAD32 powered Beneteau Ombrine 1001. Have they ever built such a boat? Is £83K the correct price? Surely this boat needs twin engines?????

If you are really serious..

The Cranchi CSL 28 fits the bill... give or take an inch.

You sure you aren't a broker?

Re: If you are really serious..

not a broker. Just trying to establish if 170hp is enough to propel a 30ft sportsboat at 26 knots. The crainchi 28 seems to require a 272hp single engine to get on the plane according to the website.

A magic one. I reckon you'd need close on 250hp to get a 30 foot boat to go at 26 knots.

Apologies

PeteM absolutely right.... CSL 28 is actually a twin in diesel form...should have read your post properly . It was quite clear.

This does confirm my thoughts regarding a 30ft boat doing 26knots with a KAD32 170hp. In the thread on the smaller Beneteau Ombrine Setries 9 the owner says he has Single 230hp Volvo, cruising 15kts approx, max 20kts. Fuel consumption approx 18 litres/hr and this got me thinking

Article says larger Ombrine 1001 powered by 170hp KAD32 for £83K but Beneteau price list suggests minimum diesel setup you can only buy is a twin engine KAD32 at around £95k.

Trying to get to grips with some of the statements made in this Motorcat article which dont make sense to me.

The Ombrine 1001 does have 2 engines - the £83k version they refer to is one fitted with 2 x Volvo 4.3 GLSXGPS 225bhp petrols as the boat they compare it to is also powered by twin petrols.

My impression now is that the economy comparison made with the 26 knot single 170hp diesel is probably a nonsense as it needs twin engines or a much larger single engine than the 170hp quoted. The cost comparison is with a twin petrol driven Ombrine rather than a single diesel version.
