I was just wandering how many of you think this magazine is not worth the cover price lately regards m m 1.

I voted no, but then I don't pay the cover price. I pay an annual subscription rate - then it's worth the price /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ooooohhh

Forgot to mention I paid at LIBS and got lots of free goodies too...

Real cost....

not a lot..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

sir i have no agenda i just think the mag is not as good as it used to be&not worth £4 ,it looks like i may be on my own regards m m 1.

I think....In Spain on a short beak so cant check........ but i think my subs are 8.50 per quarter = 2.???? month
for the info, news, adverts....seems reasonable to me...

I did see another post where you had seen repeated articles....its the same at House & Homes though...

Surely its down to personal preference. I've been reading it for years and think it's better than ever. Trouble is, what you want to read about may be different to the next boater so the mag has to try and cover all tastes. It is unlikely that there will ever be an issue that contains stuff that is all of interest to everyone. What is it that you are looking for? The staff read these fora, and post here, so perhaps you should be offering up what you want to see in the mag and see how the rest of the forum respond.

Hi mm1,

We always welcome feedback, in whatever form. You're free to email me on stewart_campbell@ipcmedia.com or PM me to let me know just how you believe MBM has lost the plot. Or, better, just reply to this post and let me know why you've become so disillusioned with MBM.

I stopped my sub cos we also get Motor boat and Yachting and they keep copying each others reviews. Why buy 2 when you get the same material! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I cancelled my subscription to MBY last year (gone completely away from my sort of boating) and I won't be renewing my MBM sub this year. There's just not enough in it to keep me interested, it seems to be aimed more and more at people new to the sport/hobby.

PBO is great but I wish they do a bit more mobo stuff.

The vote is flawed becuase it has a double negative. People will sometimes vote "no" if they think mag is not worth the price, but actually the wording tells you to vote "no" if you think it is worth the price and "yes" if you think it isn't. Doh!

I agree the mag needs to be written better. Frexample I found the antifoul article disappointing. Good experiment, but very poor pictures and not enough clear ranking between the different products

I must confess I usually have a monthly flick through the mag in W.H.Smiths - but my conscience dictates that if there's something worth reading I'll buy it rather than free-load.

Unfortunately I've found nothing sufficiently interesting for the past four issues........

Now we all know that any idiot can criticise the work of others, but my perception is that the mag has too high a proportion of advertising. (No doubt someone will be on soon with concrete evidence that there are now fewer pages devoted to adverts than there's ever been, etc. etc., but that's my perception - right or wrong).

What would probably be a more positive approach would be for us to discuss what exactly we'd like to read in a magazine of this ilk. Speaking for myself, I find postings in this very forum from ordinary people telling a simple tale of a day out/trip to anywhere on the boat - preferably with images to help adorn the story - absolutely compelling reading/viewing.

Why don't MBM pick up on some of these stories, possibly adding profiles of the owner/skipper/crew/dog/etc., tidal/weather information at the time of the trip, plotter views, etc. etc. ?

Problem is, I suppose most of us will have already read about said trip(s) on here, so it could affect sales adversely, or summat.

What does everyone else want to read about in the mag ? It shouldn't be too hard to give them a helping hand with a few pointers. (That's if they're listening /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I agree re: ads, far too many in my opinion, and that's across the board for all magazines - I hate them, and if I want them I'll pick up Boats for Sale or something /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

There must be people outside of the forum that have stories, i would love to just read pages of boating stories much like the forum as you say... other people's mistakes and things are how I learn /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd be more than willing to write a page-long article and have it published as a proper feature, if I were asked... it'd have to be somethign meddy, I cant think of anything off the top of my head atm.

Anyway the point I'm making is, even if I'd seen the vague story on the forums, I'd still rather read that than only read half and the rest be adverts...

Real people, real stories, real boaters is the way forward in my opinion /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Take for example Hurricane's pictures and story on getting his new Princess, it's such a shame that only so many people will get to see that...

It's the blatant inaccuracies that annoy me.
MBM this month, for example, inform us that Beaucette Marina is in St.Peter Port ??????
Yet another example of the demise of the proof reader and not just an MBM thing.

Lets face it, all the good stuff is here, even if here is not half as good as it used to be.

The problem is, we've made a far better job of it, than all the journalists in the world could have.

The thought of writing for the mag, then getting rejected for two many words or three short, dont bare thinking about. But then to get 50 quid for them is desidery as well.

Like you say, if they just printed the best bits out of the forum, copy and paste, it would be a hundred times better. Sack all the jerno's and send 200 notes to the provider.

Give it away, alongside that mag for the homeless, except one for them with no computer.

I was somewhat pissed off to think i was getting an extra mag with my Sportsboat and RIB magazine, only to find I'd just paid for it and it was a bloody catalogue for wakeboarding gear!

Cheeky barstewards!

Is that all they pay ?. I've been busy writing an article that I was going to submit to the mags but if they only pay £50 it isn't worth me putting all the effort into proof reading, I might as well just post it here and wait for the forum nit pickers to do it for me

Spot on.
You make me wonder if that couldn't be the real reason why the forum is kept running on one of the worst softwares around and with no search functionalities.
Think about it, an efficient forum for YBW is actually a competitor for their own business....
